Johnny and I had the pleasure of meeting on a bus. The last bus, to be specific. We were both finishing up a morning serving at Passion City Church DC's Easter service at the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. I was carrying an empty tray with a few remnants of the carrot cake I had baked for my Passion Kids team. Johnny was politely turning down lunch invitations citing a need to drive to Roanoke for an upcoming race... and he's vegan. When the last shuttle bus arrived, Johnny sat down first and I knew I had to sit next to him. There was just no way around it. We were both enamored.
After connecting on our shared love of running, North Carolina, and carrot cake, Johnny gracefully asked for my number when they got off the bus, suggesting we go for a run together sometime. Flustered, I quickly typed in my name, but forgot to add my actual phone number. I handed the phone back and Johnny (with such bravery) followed up asking again to add my number.
Fast forward a week and we met up in Old Town Alexandria for a jog along the water. We decided to keep the moment going and stopped into a local shop for mango and strawberry gelato.
From there, it was consistent pursuit and honesty. The joy, the confidence, and our partnership continued to grow.
Many gelatos and runs later, Johnny proposed to me on Saturday November 4th, 2023 at our beloved Scott's Run Nature Preserve. The morning proposal was followed by a surprise lunch picnic with my parents and a vegan dinner with Johnny's family.
We are delighted to have friends and family join us for our covenant in marriage on June 29th, 2024.
