Our very first date was supposed to be simple: meet at Strikers Bowling Alley in Boca Raton at 6:00 p.m., right after work. Ashley, excited and punctual, arrived 15 minutes early. Philip, however, arrived almost an hour late. At that point, Ashley was ready to give up. Honestly, if it weren’t for Natasha (Ashley’s sister-in-law) convincing her to wait, this story might have ended before it even began. Thank you, Natasha! ❤️
When Philip finally arrived, Ashley forgave him. After all, she thought he had been held up by work nearby in Delray. They walked into Strikers ready to bowl, only to be told that every lane was booked for a league night. BRUH. Another curveball from fate.
But Philip wasn’t ready to give up. He suggested they head over to Rocco’s Tacos instead. And that’s where the magic began. Over a pitcher of margaritas, conversation flowed easily. Hours passed as they laughed, swapped stories, and discovered how much they had in common, including both attending FAU. Looking back, they’re almost certain they crossed paths on campus, walking by each other countless times, never knowing that fate was saving their meeting for later.
The night didn’t end there. Still not ready to say goodbye, they decided to see the new Spider-Man movie at midnight. Philip had never seen a single Tom Holland Spider-Man film, but he happily went, just to make Ashley smile. That little gesture said more than words could.
It wasn’t until much later, in early 2024, that Ashley discovered the truth: Philip hadn’t been working in Delray that night at all. He had been working from home in Jupiter, and drove all that way just to see her, without saying a word. Even though he also left early, it ended up being about a 2 hour drive because Hwy 95 was closed. That “late arrival” was actually proof of how much effort he was willing to put in, even from the very beginning.
Looking back, the night was far from perfect, late arrivals, no bowling, and a few bumps along the way. But in all its imperfections, it became the most perfect beginning to our story. Because from that night on, the red string of fate had finally tied itself into a beautiful knot.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
