For guests wanting to spend more time and maybe adventuring out, Metaline is surrounded by stunning natural beauty and offers plenty of activities for outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Here are some highlights:

The Canadian border crossing: Nelway, British Columbia is approximately 10 miles north. It's a short drive along Highway 31, making it a convenient spot for cross-border travelers.

Boundary Dam Vista House: The newly-renovated Boundary Dam Vista House is scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend. The visitor center, perched high on the cliffs to the east of Boundary Dam, is an amazing spot to take in expansive views south to the dam on the north-flowing Pend Oreille River, and north to Canada. The observation deck is not for the faint of heart, but those who venture out there will be rewarded with a perspective of the area that few people trek to discover. There are displays and interpretive information in the Vista House, as well as restrooms. There is no fee to visit this unique site, open through Labor Day weekend, 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.
