Ashley's Version
On November 26th, 2021, I was working and was assigned a patient (who turned out to be Jack's grandfather) and was warned that he had a lot of family with him from the off-going nurse. Since we still had visitor restrictions, I suggested that they all visit in the waiting room until it was time for therapy. When it was time for the therapy, I had to walk his grandfather back to the room. When I went to the waiting area to get him, a few of the visiting family members nudged Jack to help me walk his grandfather back to his room. Immediately I was shy because a cute guy was helping me do my job. We got back to the room and as I was walking out, Jack stopped me and said, "You're beautiful and I would love to take you out sometime". I was stunned! Not knowing what to say (because he was my patient's grandson) I blurted out, "I'm sorry, I'm really busy right now. I'll have to get back to you on that". (Jack will now say I rejected him.) After this encounter I hid at the nurses station until Jack left, because I didn't know how to talk to him.
Later that evening, his grandmother kept talking about Jack and telling me all about him. She eventually gave me a business card with his name and phone number (which I still have to this day). Since his grandfather was still my patient, I knew I couldn't make a move. The next day, Jack's grandfather was my patient again, and his grandmother was asking me if I had called Jack yet, which I had not. Later that day, Jack's grandfather had gotten discharged which meant I had a big decision, to text him or not. Surely you can tell that I did text text him, and it was the best decision I have ever made.
Jack's Version
On November 26, 2021 my family and I had all made our way to Fort Worth to see my grandpa just days after he was admitted to the hospital. We made our way to the 5th floor and I was greeted by Uncle Jesse, who was eager to tell me that my grandpa was in great spirits and was being taken care of by a very cute nurse who I needed to meet. A few minutes pass and then Ashley walks out. Her curly hair was pulled up and I remember just starring in awe of her blue eyes, and instantly I forgot that everyone else was in the room. I graciously accepted the task to help her walk my grandpa back to his room. On the way my grandpa nudges me and immediately tries to motion for me to say something to Ashley. I knew I had to at least introduce myself. As Ashley was walking out of the room I pulled her aside and simply told her I would love to take her out sometime. She respectfully declined and said "we can talk about this later." As I walked out of the hospital I was hoping for just one more chance to see her and that didn't happen. I walked out with the "oh well at least I tried" mindset and went on with my day. Later that night I sent my nana a text that was my last effort to try and reach out to Ashley. The text said if Ashley would want my number then feel free to give it to her. Sure enough, she had accepted my number!! And just two days later Ashley reached out and the rest is history!
