Our Wedding

We've known each other 7 years and actually met while we were both in training to work for the same company. I noticed his good looks and charming smile, but was too shy to say anything … that is, until he started talking to me. During training we began having lunch together and spending time together after work. We got to know one another and built an amazing friendship. Friendship grew into something more, but the timing just wasn't right … we knew he would be moving out of state for a career change, so we both agreed to stay friends and to keep in touch, but figured that would be it ... we had no idea that fate had other plans for us. Several years passed, we would talk occasionally, until one day I received a message asking about apartments in the area and if I wanted to grab lunch. He had gotten a promotion and his career was bringing him right back to me. We went to lunch together every day that week! We picked up right where we left off … our friendship was still rock solid, the attraction was obviously there, and our love began to blossom and grow into something so much more beautiful than I ever could've imagined. Fast forward us dating almost 2 years and to the day of the proposal. We both have a love for the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC … so much charm, serenity, and beauty surrounds you. It's "our place". We gifted each other with annual passes for our 1 year anniversary and go there quite often on day trips. It was a day that I had off from work and he asked if I wanted to go to the Biltmore and have a date day, so we planned to leave that morning and spend all afternoon there. He had also planned on us taking the "Roof Top" tour that they offer (we had both often discussed wanting to do this, so it didn't tip me off that he was planning anything).We were on the tour with a group of about 15-20 people. The guide was telling us history of the home and leading us into rooms we had never seen before. As we proceeded, we were lead out on top of the roof of the Biltmore, where we enjoyed the breathtaking views of the landscape, the gardens, and the mountains. Our tour guide was beginning to ask people to come in from the roof and go back into the house. As the crowd was dispersing, Clay and I were one of the last ones on the roof. He grabbed my hand as I was beginning to walk inside and turned me around. As I turned around, he was down on one knee, proposing to me. I literally said "OH MY GOSH, WHAT ARE YOU DOING" haha I was so shocked and overwhelmed with joy! I said YES and as we were embracing in our moment together, we were congratulated by a family who was on the tour with us. They saw the proposal happening and began taking photos with their professional camera! We exchanged information and they sent us the photos they captured of the proposal. We finished the tour and I was floating on a cloud. What possibly could make this day any better? Well, we had lunch in the courtyard and walked through the grounds to a waterfall. We made our way back to the car then drove around the grounds. We found a nice, quiet spot along the river to relax. To my surprise, he had packed us a picnic with all of our favorite goodies! We sat on a blanket, underneath a tree beside the river, enjoying champagne with all kinds of our favorite things to eat. As we left the Biltmore, he tells me that he has arranged for our children to be picked up, so that we can enjoy dinner together. He had made us dinner reservations at one of our favorite restaurants (also, where he took me on our 1 year anniversary).We sat at the same exact table we were at for our anniversary. Not a single detail was overlooked by him. I'm so happy to be marrying my best friend and puzzle piece. Now here's to the rest of our journey and spending forever with you! I can't wait, I love you!

One thing is for certain- I saw her first. I was sitting in a training room, in downtown Greenville SC, on the first day of a new job. The instructor had just begun to go through the itinerary of the week and their expectations of us, when in walked the most absolutely gorgeous woman I had ever seen. She was slightly frazzled from battling hectic morning traffic, but she was captivating. I remember thinking if she's half as smart and kind as she is beautiful, then she's an incredible person. Luckily for me she's just as smart, kind, thoughtful and selfless, as she is beautiful. Unfortunately, I now had the obstacle of trying to actually talk to her. A task I wasn't sure I had the courage to do. To me, she was like Wendy Peffercorn from the Iconic movie 'Sandlot' and I was the nerdy Michael 'Squints' Palledorous. I didn't have a snowballs chance in… well you know where. Plus I feared that if I did talk to her, my words would come out in a garbled mess. I'd look like a fish out of water, opening and closing my mouth with nothing to really say. As fate would have it, the instructor placed us together for our group activities. So in essence, we had to talk to each other. It goes without saying I found her to be charming, sweet and witty. Plus she laughed at my jokes- bonus for me. From then on, we began going to lunch together on our breaks. About a week later she gave me the honor to take her out on a date, where our friendship began to blossom into something more. But like Ashley said, the timing ended up not being right. Some time after I changed jobs and moved to New England, but we stayed in touch, texting or emailing from time to time. Years later I would receive a promotion that only fate could have timed, and I was moved back to South Carolina. Once back in the beautiful south, I began looking for a place to live. My goal was to find an apartment near downtown Greenville. I knew Ashley worked downtown, so I sent her a text, asking if I could take her out to lunch to pick her brain on the local area. I think I took her to lunch the rest of the week and in a way we've been going to lunch ever since. Little did I know, years later Ashley would make me the happiest man I could ever be by saying, "Yes." I love you my darling and I can't wait to say, "I do." In hindsight, I guess Squints Palledorous and I were in fact, one in the same, spoiler alert- we both got our dream girls in the end.
