Welcome to Charleston!
We're so happy you're here to celebrate with us! While you're in town, take some time to enjoy the charm, history, and beauty of the Lowcountry. Here are some of our favorite things to do in and around Charleston:
Explore Historic Charleston
Walk the Historic District
- Stroll cobblestone streets, admire Rainbow Row, and enjoy harbor views at The Battery.
Visit the City Market
- Shop local goods, sweetgrass baskets, and Charleston souvenirs.
Take a Carriage or Walking Tour
- Learn about Charleston’s rich history, architecture, and maybe even a ghost story or two, which happens to be our favorite!
-For the history buffs, be sure to take the ferry out to Fort Sumter, and stop by the USS Yorktown, if you get the chance.
Tour a Historic Home or Plantation
- Boone Hall and Middleton Place are nearby and offer stunning gardens and history.
Eat & Drink Well
- Try Southern staples at Husk, fresh seafood at 167 Raw, or cocktails at a rooftop bar like The Vendue. We highly recommend one of our favorite restaurants, Leon's, which serves fried oysters and delicious fried chicken!
Relax at the Beaches
Folly Beach
- Our favorite beach in the area! Fun and casual, with surf shops, tacos, and great people-watching.
-Be sure to stop in at Bert's Market for mouth watering made-to-order sub sandwiches, perfect for a beach picnic! Chico Feo is right next door, and has a vast selection of on-tap beers!
-If you are looking for a fantastic brunch place, we recommend our favorite, Rita's, just a short walk from the Folly Beach Pier.
Isle of Palms
- Wide sandy beaches, beach bars, and a perfect place to unwind.
Sullivan’s Island
- Peaceful and picturesque. Grab brunch at The Obstinate Daughter or drinks at Poe’s Tavern.
Discover the Lowcountry
Shem Creek (Mount Pleasant)
- Watch boats and dolphins while dining by the water—or rent a kayak for a paddle.
-Red's Ice House has incredible rooftop views with fun drinks to sip on!
-For a waterside dinner, we recommend Tavern and Table, where our good friends, Tyler and Sidney, celebrated their engagement!
Angel Oak Tree (Johns Island)
- A must-see! This massive oak is over 400 years old and truly magical.
Charleston Tea Garden
- Visit the only tea plantation in North America—free tours and tastings!
Cypress Gardens
- Take a boat ride through a blackwater swamp (yes, it’s The Notebook spot!).
Sunset Harbor Tour
- Sail around the harbor, spot dolphins, and enjoy Charleston from the water.
We hope you love this city as much as we do. Thank you for being here—it means the world to us!
With love,
James & Ashley
