Ashlyn’s Side

Watson and I met at Lafayette Middle School and have been classmates, track and field teammates, and friends ever since. In high school, we were both involved in FCA and Commodores for Christ, and I attended the Bible study he led before school each week. On May 20, 2023, Watson called to ask me on a date. I said yes, and we went to dinner and had ice cream on May 23, 2023. That summer, we made countless memories together—hiking, swimming, boating, running, biking, kayaking, and so much more. In our senior year, we cheered each other on at various events, from cheer and color guard competitions to swim meets, band concerts, soccer games, and especially track meets. Through it all, we've always shared a commitment to growing closer to Christ. As C.S. Lewis wisely said, “When I have learned to love God better than my earthly dearest, I shall love my earthly dearest better than I do now.” This idea has deeply influenced our relationship, as we've always prioritized our faith and spiritual growth together. After graduation, we both headed to Mississippi College, where I am pursuing a degree in Business (probably Accounting), and Watson is majoring in Christian Studies. This fall, we’ve loved sharing meals together in 'The Caf,' taking nightly walks around the brick streets of Olde Towne Clinton, tailgating for MC football games, attending parties with Swannanoa Social Tribe, and participating in weekly college Bible studies. We also attend New Beginnings Community Church, where Watson is currently pastoring. On October 24, 2024, Watson asked me to dinner and proposed! Our journey together, from dating to engagement, has been filled with love, joy, and faith. We are so excited to see what the Lord has in store for us as we step into this next chapter of our lives. We are truly grateful for all our friends and family, and we sincerely hope to have the honor of celebrating our wedding with you. It would mean the world to us!

Watson’s Side

Now for the other side of the story, and I believe it’s a pretty good story with the climax still far ahead, but the start wasn’t so great on my part. I had seen Ashlyn in the hallways and in some of my classes in middle school, but the first word I ever uttered to her was at a church camp during the year of Covid. She walked by with her friend, said something like, “Hey Watson”, and then I went on to call her by the wrong name- gah lee. The following years after, I had Mrs. Hill as a teacher- who’s thoughtfulness and tenderheartedness I see come through all the time in Ashlyn, I talked to Mr. Tyler when at my sister’s cheerleading competitions, and I became friends with Layla since we were on the swim team together. However, Ashlyn remained a mystery to me. Ashlyn is pretty soft spoken, and so even though our paths constantly intertwined, I didn’t know much about her based off of her words. The way that I came to see how amazing of a person she is was by her faithfulness to the Lord wherever she went. Sadly, and I must admit it, my junior year a coach of mine had to point out to me that he thought we’d be a good match. I decided that he was right, and on the last day of school, I was going to ask her on a date. I had scouted things out and discovered that she hung out in her mom’s class during a certain period of the day- that was when I was going to ask. Well, it turned out that the last day of school was her birthday, meaning she wasn’t at school, she was at home. So, I went to her mom’s classroom, she told me the bad news, and then gave me her number. I called her the next day and she gave me an emphatic “yes”. On the way to her house a few days later (a 37 minute drive; I made that drive a lot that year), I asked God for guidance… and that I’d be able to think of enough to talk about. We left at 5, were back by 8, and to my surprise we talked and didn’t skip a beat the entire time. I was attracted to Ashlyn that first day, but my goodness, she amazes me more and more every time I’m around her. I can’t help but think of Proverbs 18:22, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” God truly has blessed me with a very good thing. We are beyond excited to celebrate this wedding. As you’ve been instrumental in our lives as individuals, we would love for you to be there to witness the beginning of the life we will embark on together as one flesh.
