In April of 2020, Skyler’s sister was coming into town to visit so we were going to go ahead and do Christmas card pictures and her baby’s 1-month old pictures because they don’t travel home very often. Skyler told me we would be doing these pictures on Friday April 18 which was the same day as my end of the year board exam!!

The day came, and I didn’t do as well on my test as I hoped so I was very down about it... but I got ready and headed to Skyler’s family’s deer camp in Bentonia, MS for the pictures. When I got there, Skyler was on the move and excited for the pictures, but I was not as eager to say the least. Skyler mentioned that his family and the photographer were about 5 minutes away so we needed to go ahead and clean the leaves off the bridge before they got there so that the picture spot would be ready. I had to complicate his plan and say, “You can go clean off the bridge and I’ll wait here at the house for your fam.” He wasn’t taking that answer and the poor man had to drag me out the door! He drove us down to the bridge and parked my side in a ditch so of course I let him know lol. I was being hardheaded for sure… We started walking towards the bridge and I thought I saw a table set up with flowers and candles lining the bridge. Without hesitation, I started tearing up and walking slower. I looked up at Skyler and he was grinning ear to ear but didn’t say a word! Then, thinking to myself, No his mom probably just set up a table of snacks for everyone (which is something she would totally do because she is very thoughtful like that). But as we got closer, I realized that it was there for me and I just started crying and hugging on Skyler. We were still 50 yards away from the bridge!! With all the excitement and tears, we barely made it there but when we did, he dropped to one knee with tears in his eyes and his face blushed. He said the most beautiful words and asked me to marry him. I melted in his lap and cried so many tears of joy and forgot all about the ring!! I couldn’t believe the man of my dreams and the man I have loved for so many years wanted to spend his life with me!!

Soon after, I see Nora Grace pop out of a bush! She was taking pictures of us on what was supposed to be her wedding weekend, but Corona had different plans. I finally put on the ring Skyler had made and we took some pictures, celebrated with a bottle of champagne, ate some steaks, and watched an amazing video Skyler put together of our family and friends congratulating us on our engagement! It was a bad day turned so so good!! After it was all said and done, I asked, “So are we still taking Christmas pictures? … No Christmas pictures were taken that day lol!
