We are so excited to see how God has clearly worked to lead us together! God used Proverbs 3:5-6 in Micah's life to start this courtship— "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." God had also just given Ashlyn some verses in 1 Chronicles 17 to claim, especially verse 27–“Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O Lord, and it shall be blessed for ever." Ashlyn claimed the promise that whatever relationship God led and directed in, He would also give His blessing forever.

Ashlyn returned to the States in 2018 and to her home church (Mukwonago Baptist) where we have been attending together. Working together in many different avenues of ministry, we got to know each other well. Within the last few years, we began working together on the Kidz Klub bus and grew in our ministry friendship. Both of our moms were praying behind the scenes, and as they prayed, God began showing Micah His perfect plan. Mom Rains was in the States in August, and the timing was perfect to begin a courtship. We started courting August 30th, and almost exactly 8 months later, on April 29th, we got engaged.

On April 29th, we were headed out with Emily and Tyler (Micah's sister and brother-in-law) on a double date to Racine, WI. On the way to the restaurant, Micah suggested stopping at a Lighthouse he had seen previously on a bus trip in Wind Point, WI. While there, Tyler seemingly unintentionally connected with the lighthouse keeper who “offered” to give us a short tour of the inside of the lighthouse. After climbing the winding staircase, 144 steps high, Ashlyn was surprised with an entire set-up of candles, pictures, flowers, verses, and the gorgeous ring. Then we stepped out onto the uppermost balcony where Micah popped the question! It was such a perfect day and the perfect surprise engagement spot for Ashlyn as we overlooked Lake Michigan.
