Austin and I met at church when he came as an intern in 2021. We became close friends through our Bible study and would hang out together all the time at symphonies, ballets, parties, and Sunday worship. I can’t pinpoint a moment when I started thinking of Austin as more than a friend, but it was continually evident to me that Austin’s love for other people and for me was fueled by a deep understanding of God’s love for him. His integrity and kindness have always been what I liked most about him and at some point I couldn’t imagine a life that he wasn’t a part of. Now he’s about to graduate seminary, I’m about to retire from my job as a ballerina, and we’re about to get married!!!
I met Ashton at church my first Sunday in Jackson in August 2021. One night in October 2021, our Bible study had a dinner and game night at her house. We sat on the couch and talked about our struggles with moralism, assurance, and how we found rest in the finished work of Christ. That moment I knew we would get married. I guess I was right! I had asked her out a couple times until she told me I couldn’t ask her out anymore. In June 2023, she told me wanted to go on dates. In July, I went to Orlando for summer classes and stayed with her parents and before we were even officially together I asked her dad if I could marry her. He said yes. Sure, it was unconventional, but I saw the trajectory! We got together in August and dated for a few months before breaking up. We didn’t speak much until May 2024 when I covered a few shifts for our friend Bonnie. I knew I would be working with Ashton and if there was anything there I would know by the end of our shift. Within the first hour of working I knew we’d get back together and the rest is history! I am thankful for the Providence of God in shaping us and our story!
