What is a tea ceremony?

A tea ceremony is a Chinese wedding tradition equivalent to a Western wedding ceremony. During the event, the couple serves tea to their parents, future in-laws, and older relatives. After drinking the tea, the elder relatives return their cups and give well wishes and gifts (traditionally red envelopes with money or jewelry) to the couple to show their approval and acceptance of the new person into their family. This event symbolizes the union of two families and is a way for the couple to express their gratitude and respect to their elders.

Do I participate in the ceremony?

Guests invited to participate in the tea ceremony will be notified when invitations are sent. Those not invited to directly participate are welcome to observe the ceremony and/or continue mingling.
