Our Wedding

Hello everyone!&nbsp; For those who don’t know, Omar and Aubrey attended Louisiana State University at the same time from the Spring of 2013 through Spring of 2015. What convinced him to study in Baton Rouge over any other American university we’ll never know…but we are so thankful he did.&nbsp; Although they didn’t know each other then, a shared radius on a dating app brought them together years later. After college, they went on to their separate graduate programs and afterwards Aubrey settled back in Baton Rouge while Omar settled 918 miles away, in Chicago.&nbsp; In September of 2020…while Omar was visiting Baton Rouge, they matched on a dating app when he asked her about the time she was kicked in the face by a kangaroo (true story). After that, they decided to go to dinner and Omar told Aubrey he was flying back to Chicago…..the next day. Despite the pandemic travel restrictions and long distance, they continued to see each other as much as possible between Baton Rouge and Chicago.&nbsp; They’ve been fortunate enough to travel many places together so far. They even managed to survive a 12 hour road trip to Arkansas and a 12 hour flight to Dubai, each way. Going through these adventures together made Omar certain that Aubrey is his “lobster.” On October 15, 2021 Omar surprised Aubrey by proposing to her at the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge. This is a special place for them as it was the location of one of their first dates together. Surrounded by family and friends she said YES! Omar has found his “ONE LOVE” and no, it’s not Raisin Cane’s…. They are so looking forward to bringing together all of their family and friends in October to celebrate their wedding!&nbsp;

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?The dress code for our wedding is semi-formal/cocktail attire.&nbsp;Ladies should wear cocktail dresses, and the gentlemen should wear a suit and tie or a sports coat. Where are the ceremony and the reception taking place?The ceremony will be taking place at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and the reception at the Lod Cook Alumni Center on LSU's campus. There is a short 10 minute drive from the church to the reception. What should I do if I can’t make it?You will be missed! If you can not make it to the wedding, please let us know as soon as possible and RSVP “no,” so we can plan accordingly. Where should guests park? There is free parking at both Our Lady of Mercy as well as The Lod Cook Alumni Center. Do you have a hotel block for guests? We have a hotel block reserved at the Cook Hotel at LSU. The link is provided on the website under the Travel tab and is available until September 16, 2022. When is the RSVP deadline? Do I need to mail back my RSVP or can I do it online?You can RSVP on this website once available. We ask that you please do so by September 15, 2022. Will food and drinks be served at the reception? We will have a variety of hor d'oeuvres as well as a buffet dinner. For beverages we will have an open bar, as well as coffee, tea, and soft drink selections. Where are you registered?&nbsp;We are registered at Amazon, Target, Crate and Barrel and Pampered Chef. If you would prefer, you can contribute to our honeymoon fund. We are so appreciative! Can I take and post pictures of the wedding on social media?We ask that all guests PLEASE refrain from taking photos at the ceremony. We have a wonderful team of photographers who will be capturing this special moment for us.We encourage guests to post pictures of the reception on to their social media channels. Our only request is that you tag us in each post or photo and put our wedding hashtag #letsghetrifymarried so we can keep track of all of your lovely pictures!
