It was a Tuesday evening in February 2024.

Aubrey had just returned to doing stand up comedy after a months-long hiatus. It was an open mic night, and she was ready to do a quick 5 minute set and go home.

Then, a man walked on stage and sat down behind a keyboard.

Caleb had recently begun stand-up as a creative venture to keep his acting skills sharp. He was about 6 months into his comedy journey at the time, and was already making an impression on the local scene.

Caleb also made an impression on Aubrey. She watched him perform an original comedy song that night, which she later described as “interesting”, but clearly she must have liked it a little because she started noticing Caleb more. Over the next few weeks they interacted sporadically, attending the same shows and exchanging friendly banter. Neither of them saw the other in a romantic light in the beginning, but their curiosity for one another soon began to grow.

One evening at a writers group, Aubrey was outside and saw Caleb pull up on a Kawasaki ZZR-1200 and realized she was in trouble.

“I thought for sure he was gonna be a Prius guy”, she recounted sheepishly.

Later that night, Caleb asked Aubrey if she would like to go see Dune II in theaters. Unbeknownst to him at the time, Aubrey hates movies, and also she had not even seen Dune I. That week, Aubrey secretly watched Dune I to catch up, which was a huge feat for her because it’s 3 hours long.

Their first date turned into another, and another. They found a surprising amount of compatibility between them - aligned on many values, including the desire to approach a relationship from a place of circumspection and growth.

Since then they've embarked on a journey to hone their creative gifts together in the avenues of comedy and music, eventually producing a weekly show of their own.

Caleb proposed on the night of his birthday, at the same spot they shared their first kiss.
