Gary tells me daily... "God knew we were meant for each other."
I met Gary in September of 2011. I had lived in Los Angeles about 3 years and worked in production, nannied for a few beautiful families, and then life shifted, as it does, and I felt I should go back into production/entertainment.
Gary was in search for a new assistant to help organize and sort his crazy, busy work and lifestyle. We met very casually at a Johnny Rockets in Calabasas, CA. I walked into the restaurant and handed him my resume, to which he replied (while devouring a chili cheese burger), "Oh I don't need to look at that, just tell me about yourself!" As the waitress came to the table, he then preceded to order for me. "She'll have a large chili cheese fry!.... Ok now, go on, tell me about yourself!" I gave a small introduction of who I was, where I was from, and why I thought I would be good for the position. He immediately responds, "Great! I already like you! You're hired!" Then reaching across the table, "You gonna eat those fries!?" I reply, a little confused, but grateful, "Oh thank you very much. Can I let you know in 24 hours? I'd like to sleep on it if I can?" He licks his chili cheese fingers and says, "Oh yeah, no, we leave for New York City tomorrow morning at 7am! You've got to get your flight and room set up immediately." Still confused, I pondered for a split second and thought 'what am I getting myself into?' Then I thought, 'well I guess there's a reason for everything,' so I said "Umm, Ok. Yes. Thank you, Mr. Halvorson." He replied, "Great! Just call me Gary. And listen." He laughs, "I know I'm a little crazy. We can do a trial run for 2 weeks, and if you hate it, you can move on; it's all cool... cool as Miles Davis."
I followed him to his home to "get the lowdown on how this all works." While in the car, I called my mom. "Um well, I think I got the job. I have a 2 week trial and then we'll see what happens."
After MANY, MANY ups and downs, all the good, the bad, the ugly and the pretty that you can imagine, the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, we have remained a unit. A very strong unit. We've always had each other's back. And through it all, we found our love.
We look forward to having all of our family and best friends come together to be a part of our wedding celebration!
We can't wait to see you!
