Austin and Sadie met on New Year's Eve 2018... but Sadie doesn't remember that meeting due to the fact that she wasn't on the market at the time. Fast forward to May 2019, a now single Sadie is celebrating her birthday with some friends who were also friends of Austin. One of Sadie's friends asks the guys which one of them is will sing karaoke to Sadie for her birthday and Austin eagerly volunteers, it was his time to shine. If you were a blind man in Flipside that night, you would have thought Adam Levine himself were singing "She Will Be Loved" on that stage, but Sadie wanted more. As Austin left the stage, Sadie asked, "Now which country song are you going to sing me?" Austin should have known a southern woman would not have fallen for Maroon 5, he wasn't in the midwest anymore. The two agreed that "Something Like That" by Tim McGraw would be the song, and if Austin impressed, Sadie would give him her number. Spoiler alert: Austin IMPRESSED.

As the next two years in North Carolina progressed, date nights turned into moving in together, turned into long distance due to deployment, turned into Austin asking Sadie to move half way across the country with him for his new assignment at Scott AFB. Surely the ring was coming soon right? WRONG!

After the couple moved to St Louis, there was still another two years before the engagement. During that time, they learned to love their new home, made new friends, and adopted a corgi named Thor. Finally, in June 2024, Austin took Sadie to a wine tasting at Chandler Hills Vineyard, where Sadie and the sommelier spent most of the time questioning Austin on what was taking him so long and when he was finally going to put a ring on her finger. Little did they know, the ring was right there in Austin's fanny pack (the nice Lululemon one for special occasions). After the tasting, they took a walk through the vineyard and Austin got down on one knee and asked Sadie to spend the rest of their lives together.
