The town the wedding will be held in is tiny, lovely, but tiny, not much to do. For out of town family if you have a couple extra days to spare I say make a vacation out of it! You can stay in the Bradenton/Sarasota area. It is about an hour-ish from the wedding site but the beaches are fantastic, so many options for hotels (on and off the beach), restaurants, and small attractions.
Up into Tampa there are bigger attractions:
-Busch Gardens
-Florida Aquarium
-MOSI
Myakka is a great place to experience “Florida”! It is open 8am to sunset 365 days a year. It is $6 per vehicle to get in. You will see alligators galore. You can bike, fish (with Florida regulation license), take a boat tour (extra cost), geo-seek, hike, or if you’re really feeling the Florida spirit you can camp and paddle (available for rent).
It’s a great place to kill some time and enjoy the great February weather!
The wildlife sanctuary is open by appointment only.
Here’s a memorable outing for kids of all ages. Check out the amazing wild creatures at Lions, Tigers & Bears. Located in Arcadia, on 40 acres of prime upland oak habitat and pastureland, the wildlife sanctuary provides homes for endangered species and unwanted exotic pets. They also have a rehabilitation facility for injured and orphaned native wildlife.
The Ringling is one of the preeminent arts institutions in the United States. Its unusually varied collections—art, circus, history, architecture, performance, gardens—reflect its unique origin story. At the heart of that story is circus impresario John Ringling and his wife Mable, and their shared desire to make Sarasota a world-class destination.
Stunningly beautiful views from the estate.
