The Journey
Austin and Beth grew up in Southern California just a few minutes down the road from each other. Surely crossing paths at the local donut shop, grocery store or sports complex at some point. Though they did not meet until college where they both attended the University of Alabama. Austin and his roommate Cole would host taco Tuesday at their apartment every week. Beth was apart of a mutual friend group that attended this weekly event. Austin stole Beth’s heart with his home made famous guacamole and a friend named Jose. At least that’s what Beth’s story is...
After spending a few months of hanging out in the same group they attended the Alabama vs. USC football game in Dallas, TX on September 3rd, 2015. Austin decided to make things official during halftime of the game, and so it began... Austin got off to a hot start by meeting Beth’s parents the following day. Austin and Beth spent their college days together at football games in Tuscaloosa, many more Taco Tuesdays, Wine Wednesdays, going to date parties, taking trips to Gulf Shores, and to Dallas to visit friends and family.
The moment they started falling in love was when Austin graduated and Beth had another semester at Alabama. They played the long distance game for quite some time... FaceTiming each other every night. Beth finally graduated and they tried to be closer to one another year after year. Beth and Austin lived in Dallas then moved to Sacramento for Austin’s job. They finally plan on starting their lives together back where they grew up in Southern California after the wedding!
The Engagement
After over 3 years of this journey of different states, different jobs, and different distances between them, Austin and Beth were about to start a new journey. On September 14th, Austin and Beth had a trip planned to the winery where they are wine club members, Matthiasson Winery in Napa. Austin told Beth that they were going to pick up the wine they had ordered for a “pick up party” at Matthiasson! After traveling to Napa, they went to breakfast and much to Beth’s surprise, Austin was calm the entire time; even with a small rectangular box in his pants the whole time.
When they arrived at the winery, Austin had rented out the entire space! The place was decorated with hydrangeas (Beth’s favorite) and a welcome sign at the front. Austin walked Beth over the vineyard as quickly as he could. He looked at her and said, “We’re not here for a pick up party.” The proposal didn’t last long because Beth blurted out yes just as soon as she could.
After Beth said yes and Austin put the ring on her finger, Harmony, who works at the winery, was around the corner with champagne and a congratulations sign. They spent the afternoon together at the beautiful winery drinking wine and talking about life with Harmony and the owner of the winery, Steve Matthiasson. (Shoutout to Harmony for helping Austin pull this off and picking out Beth’s favorite flowers at the farmer’s market that morning. Everyone should go to Matthiasson Winery!) It was a wonderful day in Napa and one that Austin and Beth will not forget.
We are both so excited for this next chapter in our lives and to see what God has in store for us. We hope you can come celebrate this day with us in July!
