Austin and Delaney met in college. They had some mutual friends, but they spent the most time with each other when Delaney directed Austin in a one act play in the spring of 2018. A week before Austin's graduation, they found that they enjoyed each other's company and decided to continue talking long-distance.

Delaney visited Austin in San Diego a couple times, and he visited her in Pittsburgh. Austin moved to Pittsburgh in August 2019 (with cat, Stevie). The next couple years were filled with game and dinner nights with friends, fishing at the cabin, trips to Italy, quarantine, cooking and baking, Pirates games, late nights at the Cage, and farmer's markets.

They got engaged on December 13, 2023 before dinner on a really great night.
