Love stories are likely the most common kinds of stories. Dragons, knights, princesses, and evil wizards are among the cast of characters. However, love stories that begin with seventh graders in Latin class are on the uncommon end of things. 

	Carpe Diem. She thought. “Hey&hellip;Did you understand anything from that class?” She asked.

He looked up surprised and uncomfortable. “No. haha. I couldn’t tell you how to conjugate one verb. I think I know less about Latin than when I went into class.”

“Did she want the terms and definitions verbatim?”

“I don’t know if she wants exact definitions per se, but I’m just gonna aim for the closest I can get.” He shrugged his shoulders.

“Good idea. If you need any help lemme know. Here’s my phone number.”

“I don’t actually have a phone...You could instant message me through my yahoo account though, but it will have to be before or after swim practice.”

“Oh really? Okay.” she laughed. 

He was reserved and quiet, almost like a turtle just peeking his head out of its shell to determine if the world would be receptive of him. He soon discovered that even if the world wasn’t, she would be. 

She couldn’t wait for the school play that year. Nobody knew for sure, but most assumed that it wasn’t because her little brother played the part of a cockney pauper, but because her brother’s friend was in the play too. And before you could say Merry Christmas, they were off to winter camp where they would hold hands for the first time with the excuse that they were sharing the hand warmer his mom had packed him.

Two years went by full of laughter, family trips, and petty 8th grade antics. Eventually they found that they had grown apart. It was devastating. But they never gave up on their friendship. Sure it was hard, but giving up was something neither of them were willing to do.

After a couple years of maturing, they began to rekindle their friendship with a call from Chicago. He had moved halfway across the states to attend college, and he was loving his new friends but was unhappy with his studies. She had moved forty-five minutes from home and was loving school, but having a hard time with people. You may be wondering what the natural course of action for a young man to take was. Listen carefully because this is going to surprise you. It involved a cellphone and his new “anti-motivational” quotes, the perfect combination for a romance. 

That summer they rejoined the youth group with the humblest of positions, the dreaded “i” word...intern. But after lots of summer games, luaus, swing dancing, and most importantly jazzercise worship, he surprised both of them with a kiss on her forehead. He moved home six months later to study English. Now they are both graduating with their bachelor’s degrees, and then moving onto their Mr. and Mrs. degrees. 

They had finally come to realize that it wasn’t just her that had accepted the strange and awkward turtle boy all those years ago, but it was he that had accepted her too. The world could turn against them for all they cared but as long as they had each other, and maybe the beach, who cared?
