What we Believe: The Meaning of Marriage

Although we’re so excited for this big day - and so blessed to have you there - our wedding is meant to be much more meaningful than a few hours of celebration. In fact, the entire purpose of it is to point to something far greater than ourselves. Marriage is a lifelong, lawful, covenant between man and woman that is designed specifically by God to reflect His gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel is the centerpoint story that the Bible, and Christianity as a whole, hinges on. But more significantly, the gospel is the true story that all people were created from &amp; for. God made us for a relationship with Himself, yet sin entered the world and separated us from Him. As a result, we are all broken sinners in a broken world, in desperate need of a savior. By His grace alone, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live the perfect life we couldn’t live, to die in our place as the payment for our sins, and to resurrect from the grave as he defeated death. All who believe in Him are forgiven and promised eternal life in His presence. In the gospel, we see a love that we do not deserve, that goes to the cross on our behalf, and that provides us life everlasting - all without any of our own doing. That love is the foundation of our faith - and the model for our marriage. Marriage is a depiction of this gospel. Marriage between two broken people in their brief lifetime on this corrupt earth, is designed to be a glimmer of the glory in which Jesus relates to His bride (the church, i.e., His people) in perfection throughout all of eternity. Because of that, we view marriage not only as a commitment between two imperfect people, but as an echo of the covenant that Jesus makes with us through the gospel. It's a union that calls for gracious forgiveness, humble servant-heartedness, sacrificial love, and unwavering faithfulness - all the same things Jesus offers freely to us. We are all called to repent of our sins and believe in this gospel, with the promise of eternity at hand. Our prayer is that you would consider this today for your life. That you would profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, experience the cleansing by His blood for the forgiveness of all your sins, and walk in new life here on Earth and resurrected life in eternity. So while we can’t wait to celebrate with you, the heart of this day is the gospel: the true story that has transformed both of our lives, and that we pray is magnified by our marriage.

Transportation

Guests are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the airport, as well as around the city for personal activities. Trolleys will be provided to the ceremony for guests staying at the four hotels where we have secured room blocks, and from the ceremony to the reception for all guests. Guests will also need to arrange their own transportation home from the reception. *If you are not staying at any of the hotels where we have secured room blocks, please plan ample time to arrange your own transportation to the ceremony, as it will be rush hour in the middle of the city on a Friday evening.*

Flights

We recommend flying into Philadelphia International Airport no later than 1:00pm on Friday, April 17th. The airport is approximately a 20-minute Uber ride from the city.

Hotels

We’ve secured discounted room blocks at four strategically located hotels in Philadelphia. Kindly book your reservations as soon as possible, as our hold ends on Friday, March 13th 2026. Shuttles will be provided from these four hotels to the church, and from the church to the reception venue, for guests booked through our room block. The Logan and The Windsor are directly across the street (a &lt;3 min walk!) from the reception venue, along the historic &amp; beautiful Ben Franklin Parkway. The Westin and The Sonesta sit between the church and the reception venue, right in the heart of vibrant Center City Philly. (The Sonesta is the most budget-friendly option!) If you prefer something different, Philadelphia offers many boutique hotels, charming inns, 5-star experiences, etc. aside from these four that we've booked room blocks at. Feel free to explore whichever accommodations best suit your needs :) *Booking links will be available for each hotel by Nov 21st*

Ava was born in Richmond, Virginia, and grew up in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado. Growing up, she was a cheerleader, played lacrosse, and loved spending time with her dog Moose.

Mike was born in New Jersey, and throughout his childhood lived in Northern Virginia, Vienna Austria, and down the Jersey Shore. Growing up, he played baseball

We both went to High Point University in High Point, North Carolina for college, where we met in the halls of the coed Honors dorm, and lived there for two years. We quickly became very best friends, and slowly fell in love! This picture is from our first date in February of 2021.

Throughout college, we were a part of the Honors program, were involved in each others sorority &amp; fraternity events, and invested in college ministry together through Community Bible Church. "Growing up" together through the transformative &amp; special years of college was such a blessing!

We both graduated from HPU in May of 2024. Mike studied finance, got hired as a Loan Analyst for Wintrust Bank, and moved to Jersey City, New Jersey. Ava studied Biology, Math, and Physics, and went on to graduate school for her Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Since then, Ava got hired as a Clinical Specialist for Abbott Laboratories, and works in cardiac surgical devices in the Philadelphia hospital systems. Mike has continued working &amp; living in New Jersey, and is in the process of relocating to Philadelphia. We have always shared a love of New York City, and use any excuse to take a day trip there (pictured here)!
