Jake and Avery first met their junior year when Avery went to his classroom during lunch to deliver a note. They didn't see each other again until they went to Journalism camp shortly before the start of their senior year. Throughout the camp, Avery tried to charm Jake, but he remained unmoved by her awkward jokes and weird style.After their senior year kicked off, they became friends and enjoyed hanging out together. Jake would always volunteer to accompany Avery whenever she had to run errands. Eventually, their interest in each other blossomed.As homecoming approached, Avery wondered if Jake would ask her, but she wasn't sure what it would mean if he did.Jake skipped a few morning classes one day to buy Avery a white rose, then while she was preparing for class, he came up behind her, presented her with the rose and asked her if she would accompany him to homecoming. She agreed.For a while, Avery was unsure if they were going as friends or if it was a date, but that was all cleared up when they met up with the rest of their homecoming group at the local Haggen's. Jake was very flirty and tossed his arm across her shoulders.Finally, they attended homecoming, but Jake was afflicted by a migraine and had to leave shortly after arriving at the restaurant for dinner.While they were waiting for Jake's ride to come, Jake made it even more clear that he was interested in Avery as more than a friend. A week later they went on their first official date and despite Avery's clumsiness, Jake asked her to be his girlfriend later that night, October 22, 2011.

The Proposal

Jake and I had been dating for almost five years.

He told me he had a surprise planned for Sunday, July 3rd, but when I was driving home from work on Saturday, July 2nd, I called him so we could talk until I got home like I always do and he said that the surprises were starting today. I got home and took a nap and he woke me up at 4:50, but he had told me I till 5 so I was super cranky (those 10 mins were important!). 

I thought he was going to take me to see the BFG since it was my favorite book as a kid. As we passed the movie theater I thought maybe he was going to get me some more books but when we passed my favorite bookstores I really had no idea where we were going.

I wondered if maybe he was going to take me for a hike and started worrying because we were both dressed pretty nice. When he took the turn to go up the mountain, I realized where we were going but I wasn’t sure why. It was about 5:30 at this time and the fireworks wouldn’t be until around 10.



The whole drive he had a romantic playlist and as we neared the top of the mountain the song that played on our first date came on. He looked at me and grinned and started telling me how much fun he had on our first date and how much he loved me.



As we neared the top of the mountain, I began getting suspicious but when I didn’t see any other cars parked nearby, I quickly let it go. When we first started talking about our future and getting married, I told Jake that I didn’t care what he did as long as he asked my family for their blessing and got someone to take a picture of it, so when I didn’t see any cars, I assumed he wasn’t proposing.

As he parked the car, I noticed a small black box-shaped thing on our usual bench. Again, I was briefly suspicious but since he had been with me for a couple hours, I didn’t see him leaving a ring on a bench for hours so I again brushed away my suspicions. I pointed the box out to him and said that maybe we should leave, but he said we should check it out. I just thought, well if it’s something dangerous, at least I’m with the man that I love.



When we reached the bench, I discovered it was a small black box. Jake sat me down a certain way and began telling me how much he loved me and how he wanted me to be his wife. I should point out that these are things he tells me pretty often so I was still pretty clueless at this point.



Then he got down on one knee opened the box and asked me to marry him! I said yes!I jumped around for a few minutes and then his dad came out from hiding behind a rock and they both showed me the GoPro hidden in the tree by our bench.Best. Surprise. Ever.

I met Sam my junior year of high school in journalism class. At first we didn't really get along because I felt that was she far too much of a girly girl so we were friendly but not close until the middle of the year when we found common ground. Our senior year our friendship blossomed and she was present when Jake asked me to be his girlfriend.We've been best friends ever since and I couldn't imagine not having her by my side.She's my ride-or-die

Rami and I met at Country Dawn Daycare. We saw each other on the playground and asked each other to be friends, and that was it.

We've made terrible decisions, in fashion and in life, ever since.





He's always been there for me and he's my boy.

Nicole and I are cousins but we weren't always close. Since I moved around a lot and went through many phases, we didn't have a lot in common. Around eighth grade we began to grow close and bonded over Zac Efron, the Jonas Brothers and taking pictures.Since then there have been many sleepovers, hour long phone calls and even a trip to the movies during a hurricane.She's my best friend and sister and I'm so lucky to have her in my life.

Allyson and I are cousins and it shows!When we were younger we played mom and dad, extreme hide and seek, and king of the mountain. We used to butt heads a lot, which was to be expected since we did everything together.My summers were spent doing "photo shoots," watching Disney Channel movies, telling scary stories and incessantly trying to one up each other.She has seen every version of me and loves me anyway and I can't imagine a better person to grow up with.

People always say that siblings are uniquely wonderful because they are with you throughout your whole life; your parents die decades before you, you meet your significant other and children decades after you're born, but your siblings are with you from the start and they know everything you've seen and experienced and grown through.

Androse and I are five years and hundreds of miles apart but there are few people in the world who know me as he does. He has been with me through each move, visitation and adventure.

He's been my constant companion growing up and biggest confidant. He taught me how to grow and forgive and trust.

He doesn't know, but he's always been my best friend.

We didn't work together much but she seemed nice enough and I assumed she was hispanic of some sort so I liked her on principal.As the semesters went on we got more and more shifts together and I found out she was Australian and along with being brilliant, kind and beautiful, I realized she was hilarious!We've been friends since and I've loved our talks, mutual love of the same wine and our inside jokes.She's smart and true and everything you could want in a friend.

I liked her at first, but I didn't really know her well.As the semester progressed, I didn't work with her much but I thought she was stuck up and far too pretty for her own good.Spring of 2016, we began working together and eventually our rushed morning shifts melded into girls' nights.She's resilient and selfless and I'm truly lucky to have her in my life.

Faith came along not long after Jasmine, but though they are close in age, they couldn't be more different.Faith has been independent and a schemer from the start, smiling sweetly for extra candy or asking Dad when Mom says no.No matter how much of a stinker she could be, she always had a sweet side to her. Whenever she had nightmares, she would come to my room, sneak into bed, lay on my stomach and ask me to scratch her back until she fell asleep. When she was sick, she would demand a slumber party. When I was sick, she would bring me water and sneak snacks. When she was six, she gave Jake a handful of change and said it was to help him with college. When she was seven, she gave me her favorite bag for Christmas.She is kind and smart and occasionally funny and she taught me how to be patient, forgiving and brave, and how to love boundlessly.

Although Jasmine came along long after I'd been a big sister for a few years, I had been young enough for the other ones not to remember them as babies.For Jasmine, I remember meeting her at the hospital and being in the car when we drove home, making sure her tiny little head didn't bounce around too much.I remember when she would wake up in the middle of the night and when she learned to crawl, took her first steps, her first day being a big sister, putting stickers all over Faith, hiding behind the couch when she was being potty trained, her first day of school, and all those days after. Jasmine showed me the magic of watching someone grow and learn and I will always be grateful for having her. She has made my life so much more magical than it would have been otherwise.
