Avery and Jalen met while Stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois in 2021. Avery was new to the base while Jalen had been stationed there for a little over a year. They were both medics for the base. Jalen first saw Avery walking the hallways of the Med Group and knew he needed to get to know her. As luck would have it, a base exercise came up shortly after and the two of them were paired together. Jalen struck out sadly as Avery paid no mind to his attempts to flirt with her. Jalen thought he had struck out. Fate had a different tune to play though. Jalen was given another opportunity a month later when Avery came strolling into his office needing help with paperwork for her upcoming inpatient hospital rotation. An annual requirement for us medics. Trying to create conversation, Jalen asked Avery when we she was going on her rotation. Turns out, she just happened to be going the same week that he was going. Purely coincidental I promise! Hoping to turn fortune in his favor, Jalen asked Avery if she wanted to carpool to save money on gas since it was a 50 min drive to the hospital they had to do their rotations in St Louis (people would usually have to make that trip 4 times during their rotation week). Avery agreed! Unfortunately, when it came time for their hospital rotation week, Avery was sick. Jalen took this time to reach out to her via Instagram to see how she was doing and if she needed anything. After that, they talked off and on through Instagram until he invited her to the movies to go see Eternals since she loved Marvel movies. From that moment on, they were inseparable and hung out all the time. About 2 wonderful years later, Jalen decided to “pop the question”. He filled the day with fun, laughter, and sweets. She couldn’t help but to say YES!
