Our Story

How We Met

The location: Iowa City, the University of Iowa.

The setting: Differential Equations Math Class.

Bailey would show up on time to class with her notebook open, pencil in hand, eager to learn. Patrick would show up 10 minutes late to class, usually sweaty, with a black eye or two. "Who is this kid, showing up late to class looking like he got into a bar fight last weekend?" Bailey would wonder to herself. "Who in this class can help me with problem 4 on the homework?" Patrick would wonder to himself. Noticing Bailey for her ability to quickly solve the equations written on the board (among other noticeable qualities) Patrick asked her for some homework help. Bailey demanded he explain his erratic behavior and inability to protect his eyes. Patrick explained that he was a wrestler, to which Bailey replied "Hey, I know a thing or two about wrestling!" It doesn't take a mathematician to figure out how things added up after that...

How He Proposed

The Location: Nelson Atkins, Kansas City.

The Setting: Valentine's Day 2017

Dividing up date night responsibilities, it was decided that Bailey would come up with an event, and Patrick would plan dinner. Trying to keep Patrick guessing, Bailey told him that she had booked nice, relaxing couples massages when in reality she had booked two spots for them at an indoor skydiving session. When they showed up to indoor skydiving Patrick was shocked and thrilled, and Bailey thought she had nailed the Valentine's Day surprise! After they had finished "falling for each other," Patrick revealed that his dinner location was on the Plaza in Kansas City, but it wasn't for another hour or so, but he told Bailey he knew the perfect place to pass the time! He took her to the Nelson Atkins Museum - Bailey's favorite place in the city. When they arrived they walked the grounds, Patrick suggested they go to the front doors and see if it was open, so Bailey walked to the top of the steps to try the door - only to find them locked. When she turned around, she found Patrick down on one knee, with a tiny box in his hand holding a diamond ring. Smiling, Patrick asked, "Bailey Banach, will you marry me?" For the second time that night, Bailey felt like she was falling head over heels, and for the first time in her life she was speechless. Eventually, she did remember to say Yes (a million times yes)!
