Our Wedding

Rebecca's StoryBailie and I first met at 8 years old at a mutual friend’s birthday party. In our relationship, and especially in wedding planning, she is the organized and calculating partner, and I’m just happy to be here. This was foreshadowed when we sat next to each other in senior year English class, and she would make me return the pencils she let me borrow. Bailie and I have had an invisible string connecting us for many years. She is an incredibly talented singer/songwriter/ukulele/piano player and she is very outspoken regarding her mental health struggles in an effort to reduce stigma and make other people who might be suffering, feel less alone. And it certainly worked for me. I would message her on instagram, platonically, after viewing her singing videos/posts and we would find connection and empathy in each other’s struggles. We met for coffee, again platonically, in 2018 and I completely fumbled the bag. I was in a not so great place mentally and just couldn’t handle the intimacy I was feeling from across the Starbucks table. This led to a slight rupture. We didn’t speak for many years. She reached out and apologized. I made amends to her. And then in March of 2023, a video of Bailie singing my favorite Rainbow Kitten Surprise song popped up on my TikTok feed. Enamored, but still just seeking friendship, I texted her and we made plans to meet for coffee. Bailie refers to this day as her unbeknownst last first date. When we saw each other in the parking lot, I extended my hand for a firm shake and she wrapped her arms around me and squeezed any hint of worry out of me. The fastest two hours of my life were spent in that coffee shop talking to her. We went our separate ways and she messaged me later asking for guidance about her recent identity epiphany. We met up during the next couple days and walked on the nature trail located near her house, talking about our lives and reassuring her that she is brave enough to be her authentic self. I remember driving home from work and daydreaming on what it would be like for us to be together, but it just felt so unattainable to me. A Brene Brown TedTalk about vulnerability emboldened her to send me a pdf titled “confession” confessing her attraction to me. I raced over to her house, begged her to let me inside, held her on the living room floor and told her I was all in. And it’s been that way ever since. Together we’ve faced several obstacles: coming out to our friends and families, death of two pets, almost losing our other dog to an autoimmune disease, the death of her grandpa, some health scares. But we’ve also accomplished things that were beyond what I ever thought was possible: we’ve created a home where things are gentle and soft and safe, we’ve grown individually and together, we got engaged, we bought a house. Bailie is both soft and strong in the best ways possible. She embodies a Disney Princess as a third grade teacher who loves her students with her whole heart. She is the biggest animal lover I’ve ever been around; we have two dogs, seven cats, and three hairless guinea pigs. She’s a supportive partner and a good sister and a daughter her parents are easily proud of.

Bailie's StoryI've known of Becca Pitcock for as long as I can remember. She was the girl I had mutual friends with, and the girl I would sometimes see at birthday parties or basketball camp when I was younger. It wasn't until high school that she was really on my radar. As a singer, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to sing with the Avon Marching Black &amp; Gold my senior year of high school. I was so captivated by all of the band members and their fierce commitment to the arts, but there was one girl who caught my eye (and you can probably guess who that was). I would spend many of our practices trying to "be cool" and hope that I would pull her attention even though I had no idea how to make sense of what I was feeling. The pack of butterflies in my stomach only intensified when I sat near her in our English class at school. She once asked me to borrow a pencil, and I couldn't believe she knew we breathed the same air. Being timid, shy, and confused, I never did strike up a conversation with her. So you can imagine my excitement when one day in college, she reached out to me after I had posted about my mental health struggles on social media. From there on, we would text frequently and check in on each other. I loved her warmth, even if it was just through words on a screen. We met for coffee in 2018, and I couldn't ignore when she looked at me and told me I had the prettiest eyes/eyelashes. At that point, I thought the chemistry between us was completely fiction, and we grew apart for some time. I "ghosted her" as the kids would say, and it wasn't until years later that I apologized and repaired what I had broken. I wasn't sure how to put into words that I had feelings for her when I wasn't even sure there was a possibility it could be reciprocated. We began communicating again and finally decided to meet up at Biggby Coffee. She pulled up in her red Honda Civic, stepped out of the car, and I swear my knees buckled. She extended her hand for a handshake, and I immediately pulled her in close to me instead. We spent hours running our mouths and letting our coffee go cold, and it was then that I couldn't ignore that maybe my prince charming was actually a princess instead. We began taking walks on the trails by the house I lived in. She would love my dogs like they were her own, having just lost her own dog earlier that year. We would have long conversations about life, and she would recite all kinds of facts about the plants, soil, and buildings we would pass, which I found completely adorable (and at times hilarious). After a few walks together, I asked for advice from her, making her the first person I officially came out to. She encouraged me to live my most authentic life and reminded me that God made me exactly the way I'm supposed to be. A couple of days later after a long therapy session, I got the nerve to at least send her a long confession with my feelings for her. I was terrified. She didn't respond for over a half hour. A white truck I had never seen pulled into my driveway. It wasn't the red Honda Civic I had seen at Biggby. I ran into my back bedroom, heart racing, and then my phone dinged. Becca said, "Can you come outside please?" I then heard her footsteps on my front porch. I froze, completely in shock. A minute or so later, I had the nerve to peek out my window and saw her climbing back into her work truck. I took a deep breath, opened my front door, and we locked eyes. She sped walked up the front steps, and I said, "I'm sorry, I was too scared to open the door." She responded with, "I just wanted you to feel how fast my heart was beating." This time, it was her who pulled me into a bear hug, and she wasn't lying -- I could feel her heart beating out of her chest. "I'm all in," she said. We laid on the foyer floor, her holding me, for awhile. As she left, she grabbed my phone, searched up a song by Alabama Shakes titled "I Found You" and said, "Play this as soon as you close the door." And the rest is history. My best friend. My warrior. The one who has saved my life. I wouldn't be here without her, and I can't hardly remember a life without her. I always say I have to be the one who dies first because I couldn't live a day without her. I am so honored that you are choosing to spend the most special day of our lives with us.
