How We Met!

Picture of How We Met!

We were in the same BYU YSA ward and were put in the same Ward Home Evening group (aka FHE). We started as friends and formed a solid friend group that hung out often. We got closer as friends: discussing love lives, hanging out alone, walking and talking daily. In the course of their friendship, Baylee had a crush on Taylor's roommate, and Taylor held hands with Baylee's roommate... Oops! One weekend, Taylor wanted to head home to St George and invited the group along to make the road trip easier. The other three friends were unavailable, so Baylee headed home with Taylor. Almost a 4 hour drive each way, we spent a lot of time together, in addition to Baylee meeting his family. Once we were back, Baylee jokingly told her roommate, "I'd marry him just for his family!" Only a few days after the trip, we held hands at a haunted house. And the next week, we had our first date! We did the typical first date of dinner, and followed it up with some games. Two days later and we had a second date! It was a double date going ice skating (Baylee's first time) and when dropping her off, Taylor finally got the guts to kiss her! Another week of dates and hanging out, and we made it officially exclusive. Taylor, Baylee, and Taylor's roommate went back to St George for the Thanksgiving break (see photo), and there we exchanged "I love you"s. The rest is history!

How He Proposed!

Picture of How He Proposed!

First, we went ring shopping , and after lots of search, we decided to do a custom ring. Baylee helped with overall details, but only Taylor saw the final product. It wasn't expected to be done for at least a couple of weeks.

Well, it turns out it was done in just over one week! Previously, Baylee mentioned she absolutely did not want Taylor to propose on Valentines Day because it was too cliche. We didn't think it'd be ready in time anyways, but the day before V-day, Taylor got the call that it was done.

On Valentine's Day, Taylor and his roommate Jonathan went out to the canyon to plan out the proposal; or to Baylee's knowledge, have a "bro date". Baylee had some suspicions, but there was no way the custom ring was done that fast.

Taylor and Jonathan struggled a little to plan it. They tried spray painting the snow, which failed. They ended up just writing it with their hands, really big in the snow- hoping it would still be there tomorrow.

The next day was a Saturday, the 15th. Taylor went to pick up the ring early in the morning. Baylee was taking Taylor to a family baptism and then later our friend group planned to go sledding. At the baptism, Taylor got to meet a lot of extended family and got the seal of approval.

We headed back home, with our sledding plans a little up in the air (typical). For one reason or another, no one else was able to make it or just didn't want to anymore. Baylee had no idea that was Taylor's plan all along. He casually suggested that we at least get some fresh air and walk/hike. He obviously planned it in one spot, but said I could pick which park. Smart on his part- looks casual and unplanned, but Taylor knew that Baylee is so indecisive he'd be picking anyways haha

At the last minute, Taylor suggested Bridal Veil Falls. He chose this spot because a couple weeks before we officially started dating, him, Baylee, and her roommate hiked the upper falls (IN THE SNOW). The last stretch was basically just ice. Baylee's roommate didn't want to keep going, so she waited while Taylor and Baylee went. It was kind of the 'turning point' where Baylee was cool ;)

So we parked, and walked up. Once again, the ball was in Baylee's court- where to go, when to turn around, etc. We chatted a little about our dating life, touched on the previous experience there. We get to a point, and decide to turn around. At some point on the way back, Taylor asks Baylee if she wants to go on an "adventure". A little begrudgingly, she says yes. We started hiking straight up a mountain... no trail. Just snow. We hike a little ways before Taylor freaks out a little. Apparently you could see the words spelled out from where we were walking and Taylor didn't want Baylee to see it too soon.

So, he does the natural thing. Covers Baylee's eyes- doesn't work well with too many stumbling blocks of a forest. Then he decides to pick her up. On a steep, snowy hill, taking Baylee off guard, this plan doesn't work too well either. We both fell over straight into the snow. Our pants were wet and cold. We slowly managed up the hill- we compromised with Baylee just looking down. We get to the spot with the words spelled out.

Baylee was in front, so she saw it first. Turned around, and Taylor was on one knee! Was the sweetest proposal and the ring was GORGEOUS!

Afterwards, Taylor shows Baylee all the attempts they had in the snow the previous day. She Facetimes her family, with in and out cell reception, because we were still on the side of a mountain, to share the news. We head back to the car, and call Baylee's best friend and Taylor's family. Then to wrap the night up, we went out to dinner!
