Our Love Story

Beau & Grant first met during the holiday season of 2017. It all started with a swipe & match on Tinder; as most modern queer love stories do. After several months of talking and casual dates Grant finally decided to make a grand gesture and invite Beau out to experience what he does for a living. Dinner & drinks followed by seeing him play in a musical called ‘String’ at Village Theatre in 2018. Little did Grant know, Beau was a big theatre kid at heart, so the gesture left him smitten. After a few months of little dates here and there Beau decided on a grand gesture of their own. He would bring Grant a home cooked meal up from Puyallup while he was in the process of moving and didn’t have his kitchen set up yet. Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, some garlic bread, salad and a bottle of wine. A classic! Beau loves to cook and had now discovered that this would be one of Grant’s favorite meals. They finished the night with a moonlit stroll down to Gasworks to admire the cityscape and have a long talk about everything and nothing all at once. These nighttime adventures to talk about life would become a staple in our relationship from early on. Their next date came to fruition from an impromptu conversation about pinball while Grant went to get his haircut at his new boyfriend’s new job at A SALON and of course, he wanted to be sure he was their first client. After that day of work Grant surprised Beau by taking him to the icebox to play pinball and have some beers. Playing pinball together would become one of their favorite things to go and do to scratch that nostalgic itch. Fast forward several months after they started dating Beau had a medical emergency which involved needing a surgery on their back. Grant offered to take care of him while he was recovering from the surgery and suggested that Beau moving in temporarily would make the recovery easier. Well what have you may!! What started as a temporary move turned into a more permanent one by the holidays of 2018. As part of Beaus big move and making big changes, with the encouragement of Grant, he bought his first car! A Kia soul named Velma! Now he could drive out to the country to work and back “‘cause I’m a city baby now!!” The new year brought all sorts of big changes, new jobs, more musicals, a big move and…and…A PUPPY!! Grant played some more musicals like Matilda and The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling bee, and toured the PNW with the NY Gilbert and Sullivan Players. Beau started a new job at a Dispensary where they met Iggy who years later would be the officiant of our wedding. At the same time Beau re-enrolled into school to become a Master Educator at Cosmetology College. Towards the end of 2019 they realized they were out growing their space. Especially when they heard their landlady yelling: ”Spencer?! Are you out there smoking again?” Neither of them were named Spencer… Who is Spencer…? With their lease coming to an end they packed up and moved to a nice, quiet 2 bedroom over in Northgate area during spooky season of 2019. They have been in the same apartment since then, without Spencer. Over 5 years at this point. After a over a half year of talking planning and preparing and a little convincing from Beau they welcome their sweet baby Corgi Artemis in their lives December 16th of 2019. Look for Artie at the wedding as she makes her royal appearance at the ring bearer. She’ll be ready for your love and any snacks she can get from you using her mindcontrol powers of cuteness. The next year would bring one of the biggest challenges and unexpected changes and obstacles for Beau, Grant and now Artie to overcome. The first 3 months of the year seemed to be promising. Beau had just finished up going to school to become a cosmetology teacher. Grant was gearing up to start playing in the world premiere of a new musical, but then, the lockdown of 2020… All live theatre had come to a stop. Grants show shutdown right before opening night. Beau's work cut half the staff as part of cost saving efforts. Leaving them suddenly in uncharted waters. Together they persevered through the good times and bad. Spending everyday together during the lockdown for just over a year and a half gave them the chance to truly connect with each other on a much deeper level. A true lifelong bond formed and was created during this time. In 2021 Beau knew deep down that Grant was the one he wanted to spend this crazy life with but wanted to wait for sunnier days and for their lives to go back to having more stability. In 2022 those sunnier days seemed to be just on the horizon. Live music was on the rise again and the sweet sounds of Grants Cello once again filled our apartment with joy and magic. Grants first show back to theatre after the shutdown was ‘Songs for a New World.’ This is when Grant told Beau that the theatre was looking for Covid safety managers to help keep live theater running and everyone who works on shows tested and safe as possible from Covid. Beau applied and got the job! This unexpected but exciting career opportunity would unknowingly introduce Beau and Grant to some of the most talented and caring people that they have the honor of calling friends. 2023 would bring so much excitement, joy, love and positive changes. Grant started to get more gigs and opportunities to play with more and more groups and started to quick gain more traction and building up momentum to him winning his spot playing with Symphony Tacoma. At the same time, Beau would try their hand at being a wardrobe dresser and their first show they got to work on was also the same show Grant was playing Cello on. A little show you might know called ‘Hello Dolly!’. During the run of the show, Grant decided to surprise Beau with a trip to go to somewhere they have always talked about wanting to go and have dreamed of since they were a little kid. DISNEYLAND! Grant decided to take it one step further… knowing how much Beau loves Halloween, (tied with his love for Christmas) Grant got Beau surprise tickets to go to the Oogie Boogie Bash at California Adventure. Once learning of this dream vacation, Beau put in motion a plan to make this trip one of the most memorable moments they both would have. Fast forward from June to October 1st. It’s a warm day in Anaheim, Beau and Grant just finished their 18 hour road trip from Seattle down to Disneyland. Tomorrow would be the big day… Grant thought Beau was just nervous and excited. They were actually nervous because they had the engagement rings hidden in their backpack just feet away from Grant the whole trip. It was the morning of October 2nd Beau sends a text off to his Sisters telling them todays the big day. They got to the park at 7am. Beau knew they were going to ask Grant today but they had a million different places where they might want to pop the question. Beau figured they would listen to the signs and when the moment was right they would know. As they walked into the park Beau saw the big pumpkin in the middle. A song came on over the speakers in the park… it was Hello Dolly! This was the sign!! So as they were standing in line waiting to have our picture took in front of the pumpkin “Married Life” from ‘UP’ began to play. At this point it was like Mickey himself was dropping all the signs and hints for Beau to ask Grant. So that’s what Beau did just before 8am on Main Street in downtown Disney in front of the Mickey Pumpkin Beau ask Grant to to marry them, Beau forgot everything they were planning to say when they got down on one except the all important question: “Hey Grant!? Will you marry me?” and he said Yes!! The rest of the trip was a dream come true. We decided the wedding would be on 12/12/24. Not only because it was a cool number combination but both of their birthdays fall on the 12th (Beaus Birthday being 2/12 and Grants being 5/12.) As part of our countdown to the wedding on or around the 12th of each month leading up to our big day we go on date to fall in love all over again. Thank you to everyone who has been part of our love story. We can’t wait to celebrate with y’all this holiday season!!
