We lived in the same dorm, on different floors, at Tarleton State University in 2014. While I (Lee) lived on the first floor, many of my friends lived on the third floor, which is where we first locked eyes. We shared in what can be described as the cheesiest beginning to any rom-com movie, ever. Becca and I were trying to let the other pass by moving out of each others way, what ensued was about 30 seconds of trying to step aside, but just so happening to move back in front of the person. I chose to break the ice first and introduce myself, then we walked on hoping to never have to share in another awkward encounter such as that one again, but God had other plans.
For six months Becca's subtle hints of wanting to get engaged proceeded to become less and less subtle (like "man, this would be a great.. be better with a ring on my hand..."). What Becca did not know was that I already had a ring and was waiting for homecoming to "pop the question". My original plan was to ask Becca on the Wednesday of Homecoming week at Tarleton's Yell Contest. We had a tradition that every year we danced in front of everyone who was in attendance, the goofier the better. We had slowly gained popularity and people got excited to see what we had in store for them this year. What I did not realize was that Yell Contest actually started at midnight, which would put Becca's family back in Kerville at no earlier than 6AM.
Weeks of planning the perfect dance moves were quickly tossed away to make way for a new plan. With little time remaining I went to plan B, ask at bonfire. Bonfire was the location that we officially decided to start dating on October 10th of 2014. Bonfire was not my first choice because she would see it coming and that would just spoil the fun, but I had to make due.
Upon my arrival to bonfire there was a new fence put up around the stage, that had not been there before. Now it was crunch time the administrators and I created a brand new plan in 15 minutes. We had to convince Becca that they needed her on the other side of the fence to take video for one of the MC's, Hannah Harris.
The plan worked flawlessly and of course Becca said "yes."
