One fateful day in Aurora High School in the Spring of 2014, a boy from the back of band class yelled "Becca is a man!" This made Becca giggle and turn bright red as she had no idea who this guy was or why he was calling out to her like that. Shortly after, the two were introduced by a mutual friend and they quickly became best friends, bonding over their shared love for TV shows, music, food and just being really weird!

Becca and Thomas continued on as best friends for the rest of high school and into college, growing closer as they supported each other through all the ups and downs life threw their way.

They were best friends for nearly 4 years until they finally decided to start dating, but most who knew them would say they had been dating long before they made it official...

It became official the night before Thomas's birthday, but they went on their first official date a week before, after a weekend trip to Catawba and Cedar Point's HalloWeekends with their friends. They went to Mia Bella Restaurant in Cleveland's Little Italy and strolled around Cleveland, talking and giggling like they always had - but this time, they held hands! It was small and something many people wouldn't think twice about, but it was new to them, and sparks flew. So much so that it made them seriously consider becoming more than best friends.

By Thomas's birthday the next week, the two couldn't deny they had feelings for each other and made it official!

In August of 2020, Becca and Thomas took to the road and headed up north to Glen Arbor, Michigan, where Thomas and his family had visited many years prior. Thomas was excited to show Becca everything there was to see, from the Sleeping Bear Dunes to the lazy river and everything in between. New to them both was where they stayed: a cozy little B&B with quaint bedrooms, a shared bathroom and unique homemade breakfast that was prepared daily. On one of the evenings, Thomas took Becca up the dunes to a spot where we could view the sunset. There was an overlook he wanted to take her that he and his family would go to watch the sunset every time they visited, but it was closed due to the construction. Instead, they sat in the sand at the top of the dunes, among the tall weeds and watched intertwined as the sun fell below the dunes. As Becca watched the weeds sway in the breeze and the sun creep lower, everything became golden and her whole body filled with warmth. It was in that moment she felt complete awareness of every thing around her. All her hairs stood up and her heart was racing, the way it does when you realize you're experiencing something important and fleeting. And with all that, and being in Tom's arms, she felt complete safety and complete peace. She looked up at Thomas and said, “if you asked me to marry you right here right now, I would”. Thomas did not in fact ask Becca this question in that moment, which was good as they were just babies. Instead, he smiled and kissed Becca, all while filing away that note for later…

In October of 2023, Becca and Thomas decided to revisit the location of their first solo vacation together. Thomas took point in planning everything, which was a change of pace for little miss Type A. He booked the exact same room in the exact same B&B, which was just as cozy and quaint as the first time they visited. They did all the same things they had the first time, except the lazy river as it was quite cold. They watched the sunset every night but instead of climbing the dunes to watch from a spot in the sand, Thomas was finally able to bring Becca to the overlook he wanted to show her the first time they visited. The first night was a gift. The sky was all shades of pink and purple and red, it was something out of a painting. But the second night was absolutely magical. Thomas and Becca walked to the outlook just as they had the night before, and they watched as the sky got darker. It was overcast this night, so the sky wasn’t bursting with color, but Thomas was eager to take photos of Becca and of them together anyway. Until, at one point, he looked beyond Becca, which made her turn to see what caught his eye. She watched as her parents strolled closer to them with huge smiles plastered on their faces. Becca was confused when she saw them, as there had been no plans for them to be joining them this weekend. When she turned back to Thomas to ask if he saw them, too, he was getting down on one knee. It all came into frame then and despite the nervous backing away and the immediate tears, Becca chuckled out a “no” as she vigorously nodded her head yes over and over. The four of them took pictures and cried and giggled and got dinner together, and the rest is history.
