Our Story

How We Met

photo

Berlin and Nate met for the very first time in passing nearly 10 years before they started dating while at a pool party hosted by a mutual best friend in Lehi, Utah. Neither could have ever guessed that in the brief moment they were introduced to each other, they had just met their forever person.

Life took them both on whirlwind adventures around the country with Berlin moving to Illinois where he would completed both his master’s degrees and Nate living in various states over the years.

Then, as luck would have it, that same friend invited them both to her wedding in Portland, Oregon in the summer of 2023. Nate was one of the last of the friend group to arrive a few nights before the wedding and he met them at the welcome party at a Portland brewery. Walking in, Nate immediately saw Berlin seated with the friend group.

They were reintroduced to each other, after all 10 years is long time to remember anything about someone. After the group parted ways that evening, Berlin turned to our friend Grace and said tell me everything I need to know about Nate.

The next day the respective wedding parties began their festivities, and the bridal party went to lunch after rehearsal where Nate worked up the nerve to talk to Berlin while waiting for the tables to be set up. They immediately hit it off, something that did not go unnoticed by everyone else at the lunch. Like the millennials they are, they traded numbers and continued getting to know each other.

That night while at a karaoke bar with the Bridal party, Berlin got to do what he loves most, sing! Nate couldnt look away, not only was Berlin tall, smart, and handsome, he could sing too! Later on while getting some air, the two got to talking again when they spotted a photo booth and thought why not. It was here that in the last shot, history was made, and their first kiss was caught on camera!

The next day they celebrated the union of their best friend and her wonderful husband where they were conveniently seated next to each other at dinner. Afterwards, they spent the evening dancing their hearts out. The next morning came too fast, and it was time for everyone to fly home. Berlin returned to Utah and Nate flew to Colorado. Nate was surprised when after he landed, his phone rang, and it was Berlin calling to check and see if he had landed safely.

They stayed on the phone for Nates hour long drive home and continued to talk even after he had parked in his driveway. After hanging up the phone, they both realized that this was something more than just a weekend romance. It was a few weeks later that they decided to DTR as the kids say it, and they where both surprised to find how easy it was to see each other even though they were long distance dating! As fate would have it, they wouldn’t have to endure the distance for too long!

The Proposal

Fast forward two years. Berlin and Nate have since moved in together in Salt Lake City, Utah. They live there with Berlins mom and her dog, Gunner, and are close to Berlins family as well as some of their closest friends. They spend their weeks working and taking care of the household and their weekends hot tubbing or bar hopping with friends!

One Sunday, Nate was sitting back and watching Berlins 2-year-old nephew, Rowan, play with his cousins of similar age, Poppi and Rosie, while at a family dinner. Suddenly a wave of contentment he had never felt before washed over him, and he knew in that moment it was time to start thinking about forever.

It just so happened that the next week, Nates coworker, Russell, asked if he and Berlin would be willing to model for his wedding photography business. It was then that Nate had an idea. Since their 2-year anniversary was coming up, why not have a celebratory dinner at their favorite restaurant in Park City, a relaxing night at a hotel nearby, and then meet the next day for the photo shoot! There was one detail that he left out for Berlin however, this would be no ordinary shoot!

In order to throw Berlin off the trail, Nate spun a tale at dinner that night in Park City about using the upcoming family trip to Colorado in October to get engaged since both sides of the family would be there. Thankfully, Berlin bought it and Nate spent the rest of dinner and night trying not to throw up from nerves!

They met Russell the next day in downtown Salt Lake City where Russell had picked a few spots that would have great views and architecture for the pictures. Russell was of course in on the plan, and being adept running an engagement photo shoot, was able to keep the couple moving and smiling, even though Nate couldnt feel his legs!

Finally, Nate asked Russell to play a song on a speaker to set the mood. It was The Book of Love by Peter Gabriel, a favorite of theirs. Russell knew this was the moment and directed them to face each other. Nate thought it would be cute to sing the lyrics to Berlin and then pull out the rings, but suddenly his throat didnt work and his mouth was as dry as sand paper.

So instead, he pulled the rings from his pocket and said, “I know I told you that we should get engaged on the Colorado trip in October, but I lied. I cant wait a second longer, will you marry me?” Or at least that’s what he was told he said, because Nate may or may not have completely blacked out in the moment! He assumes he said the right thing, because as his consciousness came back to him, Berlin was smiling and saying yes!

After a few more photos and the biggest sigh of relief ever recorded by mankind from Nate, they made their way to one of their favorite bars in town where to Berlin’s surprise, some of their favorite people were waiting to celebrate! Love is love folks, and love always wins.
