Justin and Beth met at a shabbat dinner in 2016. Beth had just started her Master's of Sustainable Communities program at Northern Arizona University and Justin was working as a reporter for the KNAU radio station. Beth's first impression of Justin was "wow, he's a total bro." Justin's first impression of Beth was "wow, she's super awkward." Thanks to Flagstaff's small Jewish community they became friends.
Fast forward to January 2018. Justin and Beth had become better friends by being involved in the open mic standup comedy night known as FlagLaffs of which Justin was the host. Justin posted on their Jewish friends' Facebook page "going hiking in Prescott, anyone want to come?" Beth was a stressed out grad student and happen to be free that Sunday so she said "sure I'll come." They spent the day bouldering around the rocks of Prescott. Beth got car sickness on the windy road and threw up in Justin's car. Justin ended the day with saying "wow this would have made a great day." Beth, exhausted from hiking and vomiting automatically grew super uncomfortable. From then they started hanging out more in a friendly way.
On June 8th 2018 Beth and Justin went on a sunset picnic Shabbat dinner because sure whatever that's totally what friends to. Justin asked "what is THIS" and Beth replied "maybe this is a THING?" From there they were a officially a couple. A few weeks later Beth told Justin "hey I'm moving to Canada for a job that I applied to thinking it was in California." Justin told her he wanted to do long distance. They dated long distance for TWO YEARS visiting each other in Ontario Canada, Chehalis WA, and Agoura Hills CA whenever they could.
On January 29th 2021 at a pond in Baltimore, Maryland Justin got down on one knee and asked "Beth Ruth Vander Stoep will you marry me?" Beth replied "I thought we were here to look at ducks................ also yes."
