One of our favorite Northern Virginia wineries and a reasonable drive (about 40 minutes) from the hotels in Tysons. There are two large indoor facilities for tastings, food, and wine by the glass or bottle plus a sprawling outdoor area.
Fantastic lunch or dinner spot with an excellent cocktail menu. Daily happy hours during brunch (open to noon) and afternoons (2pm to 5pm). Trendy menu with everything from burgers and steaks to sushi and tacos. Definitely try the lobster tostadas (they're on the happy hour menu!)
It's a shopping mall. A very, very large shopping mall. If you can't find what you're looking for here, it either doesn't exist or it can be found at Tysons Galleria. Both are walkable from the hotels!
Excellent Mediterranean food with multiple locations through the D.C. metro area. Recommend sharing small plates and sampling an impressive wine menu.
Public train transportation into Washington D.C. Only a 2-3 minute walk from the hotels and you can get downtown in about 35 minutes for less than $4. Get map of the Metro system, depending where you're going you'll likely need to change trains. Metro is safe and clean. This isn't NYC.
Please notify Beth if you plan on going to Mosaic District because she WILL meet you and you WILL "just poke into Target." Mosaic is a fun and cute retail/residential district near where we live (not walkable from hotels) with plenty of shops and great restaurants. And a Target. Bar Taco and Sisters Thai are fantastic places to eat.
Beautiful winery sat on a mountain, looking east towards the flatland. We're wine club members here because we love it so much and is the perfect venue for a glass or four outside on a beautiful day. Dog friendly! Try the Ascent red. A 50 minute drive from the hotels.
A beautiful national park along the Potomac River, accessible from both Virginia and Maryland (you'll want the Virginia side). Less than 20 minutes from the hotels, there are a few great places to see the falls (all from above). It's a nice walk but wouldn't go so far as to call it a hike.
One of Virginia's premier hikes with several trails up the mountain. Situated in the Shenandoah National Park, every view is beautiful and lush. This is a full day trip but highly recommended!

An extension of the Smithsonian's Air and Space museum in D.C., this massive and incredible museum has everything from early war planes, to fighter jet simulators to the actual Discovery spaceship (which is so much bigger than you can possibly imagine)
The Udvar-Hazy Center displays thousands of aviation and space artifacts, including the Space Shuttle Discovery and a Concorde, in two large hangars.
