Our Story

The first sighting

Bethany first saw Tyler in the Sbisa Dining hall on campus. Seeing the cute guy every once in a while became a joke between her and her roommate Lydia. He became known as 'Sbisa Boy.' It was a big deal the day he flashed a friendly smile ;)

A Year Later

The next year, while at a popular coffee shop, Tyler was happy to see that Bethany and her friend Lydia had an open seat at their table and jumped at the opportunity to join them. Not much studying got done that day as people started clearing and Tyler and Bethany became immersed in conversation.

The plot thickens

After that day at the coffee shop, their story diverges. Bethanys not interested, but Tyler's heart has been captured.

Divine Intervention

Bethany has made a pledge in her heart and to God to stay single and in pursuit of Him. Tyler got a word from God to wait for her, but for how long he couldn't guess.

The Wait

What Tyler thought would be four months of flirting followed by a date became fifteen months of making moves with no reciprocation.

The First Date

The day finally came when Tyler could ask her out. He went to three stores to find the perfect flowers, made a cup of piping hot chocolate, and showed up at Bethany's door on a freezing cold afternoon. Bethany answered the door with a huge smile, and after nervous words they don't remember, she said yes to a date.

Tyler packed a backpack with enough food for a village and took her on a walk at Lick Creek Park. After the short adventure, they went to the farmer's market for a DIY picnic and watched the sunset. That was the first of many amazing dates to follow.

The Story Continues

Tyler and Bethany spent the next year growing closer to each other, God, and each other's families. Tyler was soon ready to put a ring on Bethany's finger, but it would prove nearly as difficult as getting a first date. He planned over 5 different proposals, and none of them worked out as planned.

Finally, Bethany had just walked the stage. Her whole family was in town, and it was the perfect opportunity. After months of intricate but failed plans, Tyler called Bethany's dad at 11:30pm with a spur of the moment proposal idea. We would use tomorrow's graduation party as a cover up for the proposal.

She said YES!

The next morning Tyler got to work. He printed out pictures, recruited Lydia for photography, and set up the Barbara Bush Rose Garden. Tyler started driving to his soon-to-be fiancée's house to pick her up when something awful happened. Bethany's mom called saying "Umm. Bethany's still asleep with no makeup or hair done."

Tyler had to think fast. He called Bethany (waking her up) and asked her to get ready for her party sooner than she expected. Soon, they were driving together to the rose garden, Bethany unsuspecting. Then, as they approached the gazebo, she spotted the pictures Tyler had hung, then smiled at Lydia hidden with her camera. Today was the day!!!

They stopped under the gazebo, Tyler got down on one knee, and Bethany said yes!
