Eric has been a fly fishing enthusiast for many years. More recently in the last 20 years he has been focusing on Atlantic Salmon fly fishing thanks to his mentor and best man Marc Cabot who introduced him to the sport in 2001. When Betsy was being treated for breast cancer she had the opportunity to be introduced to fly fishing as a means of introspection and healing through a special program in Vermont which offers fly fishing instruction to cancer survivors. Hence we both came to this activity through different paths but now we are hoping to spend more time doing this together.

For those of you that are not familiar with the sport, flies are artificial representations of insects or fish that are used to fool the fish into grabbing the hook. Fly tying is an art form that is specific to the type of fishing being done. Salmon flies are amongst the most elaborate and beautiful of all flies and are tied by some artists in parts of Canada where the sport is practiced.

We are hoping to obtain a collection of these flies from a tyer named Marc LeBlanc of Quebec who is well known for his unique patterns and attention to detail. This collection would then be used by both of us to spend time on the river together pursuing this activity.

Since it is not possible for individual guests to purchase single flies, we decided to create a fund from which we will purchase a selection of salmon flies from Marc LeBlanc and fund a trip to the Gaspe in Quebec to which guests can contribute. For reference purposes, a single fly costs approximately $8.50 to $12.50 , and a guide would cost about $ 600.00/day for a couple. We know that many of you may want to purchase a precious, beautiful, maybe handmade gift for us to have at home. We truly appreciate your heartfelt wishes for us , however we feel that it would mean so much to us to be in the river fishing as husband and wife and have these beautiful flies as a reminder of your generosity and all the best wishes that you and your family hope for us as Mr. and Mrs.Asnis.
