TRAVEL!
For pricing and logistics, we recommend separate flights: from US to São Paulo (US → GRU), then São Paulo to Curitiba (GRU → CWB). Every time we have traveled there, we fly American Airlines/United. However, if you prefer, or find a better deal, from another airline, by all means. This is just a suggestion from semi-frequent fliers!
When you enter Brazil, you arrive at Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) in São Paulo--the largest in the country. All signs will have an English translation and workers will make an effort to understand and help you.
We recommend at least 3 hours between your international arrival in GRU to your flight to CWB. Delays are not uncommon in the US-GRU trip. So this should give you ample time to deplane, go through immigration, collect your checked luggage (if any) and check it again for the domestic flight.
After landing, follow the signs for immigration. After that retrieve your checked bags and go through customs ("nothing to declare" = "nada a declarar"). You will then exit into Terminal 3, the international sector. From there, walk over (15-20 min) to Terminal 2 by following the signs and find the section with the airline for your domestic flight. Check your suitcase again and head over to boarding!
For the second leg of the trip, it's a 1 hour flight from São Paulo (GRU) to Curitiba (CWB). For this, we fly LATAM. The link is provided for this airline. For any questions, please contact André, who will walk you through it. You won't have to do this alone!
The exact airline doesn't matter much, though LATAM usually has the best hours/price combination — just know that these are local companies and, as such, the websites will take a while to load.
Recommended nearby hotel, Murcure Batel will have easy access to food, transport, and leisure, close to the Liston family. Also an option for international folk with none/limited Portuguese.
Use WhatsApp to contact them directly!
Alternate close-by and accommodating hotel, this is where some of Andre's own out-of-town family will stay when they come to visit!
Same things apply--near food/necessities, the family, and best reached by Whatsapp.
Close to the Liston home, with easy access to food, transportation, and leisure. It is also known to cater to international clientele.
The phone number is best reached through WhatsApp!
