The Meeting
So, there I was, standing on the dance floor of one of McAllen’s most prestigious nightclubs, The Thirsty Monkey. As the designated driver that night, it was my task to make sure that all of my buddies made it home safely. I looked over at my friend Josh and said "Hey dude, look at that girl standing at the window over there.” He said, "Who, bro?" I said, "The girl over there next to the loser passed out in the window by the front door." He said “Yeah, I saw her.” I told him that she was super pretty and I wanted to talk to her. Right when I said that, I turned to look at her again and she caught me. She walked up to me and said, "What are you looking at?" I said, "Hi, my name is Chris." She continued to stare at me with a blank expression so I said the same statement, this time in Spanish "Mi nombre es Chris." She continued to look at me blankly so I asked her in Spanish, "Do you speak English?" She looked at me angrily this time and said, "Of course I speak English!" We talked and talked about everything two people can talk about for almost 45 seconds. She glanced over her shoulder and looked back at me with panic on her face and said "OH MY GOSH, TAKE MY NUMBER ALREADY!" I was caught off guard and fumbled with my phone entering her number. The next day, and for the next month, we talked and texted every day, having lunch almost every day at her work in the hospital. I asked her after 4 months to move out of The Valley and move in with me to a small town outside of San Antonio. She did, and everything has fallen into place since then. We have built a life that helps both of us to become better people and I am so excited to continue to grow with her.
