July 2020
Katie and I met through mutual friends in my hometown of Stevens Point, WI. She was in town for a wedding, and I had stopped by to give my best to the couple. I noticed her immediately, blonde hair blue eyes and someone I couldn’t stop starring at!
At the time we were both working in the medical field, Katie at UW Hospital as a trauma ICU nurse and myself in orthopedic medical sales. We found common ground immediately, and of course I dropped the ball by not asking for her number…Fast forward a few weeks, I finally had the courage to slide into her DMs...Facebook of all places.. But It worked!
August 2020- First Date
After we began talking, a few more weeks went by, and I convinced her to come back to Stevens Point for a date! Of course I had no idea what I was doing but figured you really can’t go wrong with beer and Mexican food.. So that’s what we did, Oso’s Brewery and fun spot called Tulum. Our conversation revolved about college, friends, family, etc. I learned she was the youngest of 4 and was from Manitowoc, WI so OF COURSE I asked her if she watched “Making a Murder” … I also vividly remember Katie eating a burrito as big as my face. I was impressed.
A few more months went by, and she liked me enough to start dating later that fall.
2021 - (Sort of) Long Distance
Long distance dating wasn’t something I was accustomed to. Madison to Stevens Point isn’t a far drive by any means at just under 2 hours but nonetheless this was all new for me. However, Katie is so easy going that the distance seemed irrelevant. It came easy to us and after a little over a year of the back and forth, meeting friends, family, and exploring Madison we decided to take our relationship a step further and move in together.
2022 – Bobby Moves to Madison
Selling one home, buying another, mastering U-haul driving on the beltline (in rush hour, with construction), and changing jobs.... it was quite the start to 2022. Living together was certainly a big change as well but one we were excited to make.
Katie’s come around to accepting my clean, OCD mentality when it comes to the house and more specifically Augusta National (the grass). I on the other hand have learned to chew with my mouth closed and that sometimes it’s better to just say “yes dear.”
2023 – Ryder
So, you know that bit you just read about me being a little OCD, and wanting a golf course grade yard? Yea that usually doesn’t coincide with getting a golden retriever… But we did.
Katie grew up with goldens her whole life, I on the other had had never had a dog. I love them, but never had one. So, when we tossed around the idea of getting one, I was all for it thinking “with all that hair I can just vacuum a bit more it won’t be that bad” – WRONG.. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
We got “Ryder” in April of 2022. Of course, named after my favorite golf tournament, the Ryder Cup. He’s the best dog on the planet and you’ll probably see him at the wedding if he’s not busy keeping an eye on the neighborhood, bird watching playing with his teddy.
August 12th 2023 – Bobby pops the question.
To save you all from reading an even longer novel I will try to be brief…
I “secretly” with the help of some of Katies close friends and her sister Kristin planned a special day where her and I went out to Wollersheim Winery (one of Katie’s favorites). I had some photographers waiting for us up on a ridge hiding in plain sight where I dropped to one knee and asked my best friend (and golf partner) to marry me. There were plenty of tears as Katie is certainly the crier in the relationship, but it all worked out perfectly… After we enjoyed a bottle of wine and headed back to Madison to “meet up with some friends.” Little did Katie know I had over 30 of our closest friends and family waiting for us at a favorite brewery of ours. She walked inside and was greeted with smiling faces, Ryder, and more tears. After food and drinks we went back to the house and celebrated all night with friends and family, it was the perfect day.
August 10th 2024 – The Big Day
We want to thank our incredibly supportive family and friends who have been there for us all along the way. We cannot wait to celebrate the rest of our lives together with each and every one of you….The ones that mean the most. Cheers!!
