Bobby and I met at a RYC (regional youth council) retreat at Laurel Ridge, a place very special to each of us, in January of 2010. I remember texting my friend Olivia at the time telling her there was a guy on the retreat who was a year younger than me but “really cute.” I guess this is where our story starts.
In typical millennial fashion, Bobby and I became Facebook friends as soon as we got home from the retreat. We FB messaged each day about how excited we were for the next RYC meeting and the upcoming week of senior high camp at LR as well as the next time we’d get to hang out with all of our friends again. He pulled the classic move of, “I have to get off of FB messenger but if you give me your number I can text you.”
Smooth, Bobby.
We talked every day and became really good friends, but the only time we really saw each other was on the weekends at RYC meetings or sporadic hang outs with other camp people. I remember counting down the days until senior high camp where we’d get to hang out for a week straight at our favorite place in the world. I also remember telling my friends about how Bobby had become a really good friend…but that was it, of course!! And then senior high camp 2010 came and went, and it was clear that maybe this friendship thing was more than just that.
Flash forward several months later, and we’re officially in the talking stage. And then Bobby would wait another few months to officially ask me to be his girlfriend ;) Now eight years later, my camp crush is my fiancé, and here we are telling this story on our wedding website.
We are so excited for this next chapter of our lives, and we are so thankful that you can share this with us.
