Our Wedding

Brandon and Aaliyah met on a Teen Acts Retreat in 2014. What began as two strangers learning about the Catholic faith later turned into a friendship that would falter for a couple of years. It wasn’t until Brandon sat down for his speech class in 2016 and noticed that Aaliyah walks in and takes the empty seat next to him. A friendship slowly began to rekindle itself. Soon after, Brandon worked up the courage to express his feelings to Aaliyah. “Everything that is done out of Love acquires greatness and beauty.” – St. Josemaria Escriva One thing Aaliyah always told Brandon was that before they could begin a relationship, he must first ask her parents for their blessing. One afternoon while the two visited Sonic by the Creek, Brandon was nervous and practiced what he was going to say to Aaliyah’s parents. Aaliyah reassured him and Brandon knew that he had to overcome his fear in order to begin a relationship with Aaliyah. Little did he know, he started to fall in love with Aaliyah and their relationship began on November 30, 2016. The two continued their relationship, began spending time with each other’s families, and growing together. They continued to keep God at the center of their relationship and did their best to be a good representation of what true love was. As the year went on, Brandon was soon getting ready to move to San Antonio and attend Our Lady of the Lake University. While this challenged the young couple, they never failed to trust in God. “Trust in God Alone” Psalm 62 The two had to learn to navigate the distance and ensure the trust in one another. Aaliyah soon joined Brandon in San Antonio and began her studies at, you guessed it, Our Lady of the Lake University. Brandon and Aaliyah’s love grew stronger than it ever was before. They attended mass, kept each other safe, and helped each other succeed. Fast forward to December 2020. Brandon is fixing to graduate and Aaliyah is fixing to begin her last semester. Uncertainty happens shortly after Brandon graduates that would change their lives and challenge the couples relationship. Brandon was diagnosed with COVID-19, Pneumonia, and a Pulmonary Embolism in his right lung. He would spend eight days in the ICU at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital in critical condition. During this time a lot weighed on Aaliyah’s heart but she never lost faith and prayed to God for Brandon’s healing. “I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord” Jeremiah 30:17 During Brandon’s hospitalization, he began his graduate studies at Sam Houston State University. A struggle, but was possible due to his great determination and the support his village provided. By the Grace of God Brandon was healed and the love the two had for each other during this time of need was a true testament of a beautiful faith. The two continued their relationship over the next couple of years, Brandon got to witness Aaliyah graduate from college. The two experienced happiness, sadness, and even loss. The Vargas family experienced their greatest loss, Hervey Vargas Sr. This shook Aaliyah to her core, but she knew that her grandfather would continue to watch her and guide her every move alongside God. Brandon stood strong and supported Aaliyah through her grief and all that came with it. During this time Brandon and Aaliyah began their careers within the Law Enforcement field, and continued to love one another. Did they fall, absolutely, but God was always present in their lives even when they questioned and lost sight of him. They continued to be anchors for each other. ‘Everyone experiences doubts about the faith at times — “I have” many times, Pope Francis said — but such doubts can be “a sign that we want to know God better and more deeply.”’ In March 2024, another unexpected turn of events would not only challenge the love of Brandon and Aaliyah but would serve as a true testament of the power of God. Brandon is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in his foot. A cancer that cannot be cured but can be left untreated, allowing one to continue to live a happy and healthy life. Receiving this news broke Brandon, yet he still put on his normal face to hide the pain he was feeling inside. Aaliyah knew his pain and continued to love him unconditionally. “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate” Mark 10:9 In times of uncertainty, when it was easy for someone to walk away, Brandon and Aaliyah ran to each other because of the love they had for one another. On July 20, 2024, Brandon asked Aaliyah to be his wife surrounded by their families. Together they have continued to be a true testament to God’s unfailing love. Again, Aaliyah’s family experienced a great loss, Sandra Mojica. Tia Sandra’s passing left a strong sense of sadness and grief, however, Brandon and Aaliyah’s love continued to grow strong as they felt the love of their families even through loss. Being engaged has been a beautiful reminder of the love the pair share and the journey to the Holy Sacrament of Marriage. The soon to be newlyweds are excited to finally be united as one through God and look forward to the future of their relationship. “We are so blessed to celebrate with you as we embark on this journey as husband and wife. Through every milestone and every hardship, we remember you and the impact you’ve had on our lives and relationship. We thank you for your continuous love, support, and guidance. Our relationship has been tested countless times, but we wouldn’t have made it through without the people in our lives, especially our parents and siblings. They have been a constant support and have provided their unconditional love every step of our journey. Please continue to pray for us so we may receive the unconditional love from our Heavenly Father” - Brandon and Aaliyah
