Brandy and Kieran both grew up in the city of Calgary. Although they shared multiple similarities and experiences growing up, they never met each other until they both moved to Vancouver.

It all started on a Thursday night in Coquitlam BC. Kieran had arrived at an AA meeting and was sitting alone by himself on the side of the room. To his enjoyment, he notices a girl walk in the room, wearing all black, a hat, and her hood on. This girl walks around the room and, through gods grace, sat 3 chairs away from Kieran. Taking this as a sign, Kieran quickly scans the room to find something adequate to break the ice with. Thinking he has the perfect line to spark a conversation, he leans over and says "solid turn out tonight." (the room was only 1/4 full).

Thinking he has just discovered fire, he is beaming with confidence, until she replies.

He is met with only one thing. "The look".

Admitting defeat, Kieran contemplates his life choices and wonders if he should leave.

The powers of the universe work in mysterious ways, and the universe pulled through for a second time.

Shortly after "the look", two people proceed to sit in-between Kieran and this women. Kieran immediately recognizes both of them, as he had ran into one of them back in Calgary years ago, and knew her partner from Vancouver. They exchange hellos and then his friend proceeds to ask "have you met my friend Brandy?"

Check-mate.

The fleeting confidence from moments ago returned like a roaring wildfire.

This women, as Kieran has just come to know her name, is Brandy Gamble.

"Hello, it's nice to meet you!"

*the look again*

Something clicked in Kieran's head at that moment. He leans over and makes a bold statement to Brandy.

"I think I have you on Facebook".

"you don't".

"No, I think I do".

"you don't".

Now, some backstory is required to get the full effect of this story.

Kieran had just entered treatment and was 12 days sober at this moment. As per treatment rules, Kieran did not have a cell phone. He could not verify his claim, and you bet your ass Brandy sure was not going to verify it.

The meeting then starts and no other conversation or "pleasantries" were exchanged.

Both parties go their separate ways. Until the following day.

Kieran is blessed with his one hour of phone time at the treatment centre, and, like a bat out of hell, opens Facebook to search for this "brandy".

To his absolute amusement and smugness, there she was. The "friends" button with a check mark beside it.

The next thing that happens seems to be the only logical decision anyone would make in this situation. Kieran sends Brandy a message on Facebook saying:

"Told yeah"

This monumental AA meeting, and subsequent meeting of two people happened January 10, 2019.

The following days consisted of Kieran asking Brandy what meeting she would be attending that night. Brandy would let Kieran know, and Kieran would then "bully" the treatment centre into going to that same meeting.

4 days later, their first "official" date.

Now, if you know Kieran, Brandy, or both, the word official does not necessarily mean official as it would to normal folk. Their first date consisted of Pizza and a movie, at, you guessed it, the treatment centre.

Kieran and Brandy have been together since that day. Again, if you know Kieran or Brandy, "together" does not mean what you would traditionally think.

Although they were always a couple and in a relationship, Kieran would "attend" sober school a few more times before graduating. They would still do everything together, and eventually started to make roots and a beautiful life in Vancouver, surrounded by friends, family, and recovery.

Back to the Facebook incident for a moment.

Kieran and Brandy both, to this day, have no idea how they were Facebook friends, or when they became Facebook friends. Brandy claims "I saw neck tattoos so I probably accepted." Which is probably the most accurate statement Brandy has made, to date.

Throughout the next few months of meeting, Kieran and Brandy would share stories of growing up in Calgary, their family, and friends. Kieran and Brandy both knew the same people, and attended the same "social gatherings". Brandy went to school with some of Kieran's cousins, and their parents even shared the same mechanic. Some things are just meant to be.

Late August of 2023, the two decided to move back to Alberta, where they currently reside in Lethbridge. They both continue to excel in their professional lives, recovery lives, and most important, together.
