Rocco’s old stomping grounds and nearly a stone’s throw from their former apartment, Belle Isle is a serene location nestled between the James River. Connected to multiple trails and areas in Richmond, Belle Isle serves as a wonderful area to walk, run, or bound across large rocks on the river.
Exalting the artistic side of the Richmond community, Carytown hosts an assortment of indie boutiques, restaurants, local artwork, and "interesting" people to watch. On a pleasant day, it’s worth a nice stroll before or after a good meal.
Located in the museum district of Richmond, the RMFA holds a number of interesting and wonderful exhibits that display anything from ancient relics, historical pieces, modern works, and more. It is also one of the locations of a writing group that Brayden joined.
If organic or “fresh-from-the-farm” foods, local RVA businesses/vendors, petting a plethora of puppies, all of this compacted into one section of Bryant Park. This farmer’s market occurs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. If one stand is around, Alfredo’s Honey sells some fantastic whipped honey (bring cash)!
A beautiful park with wildlife exhibits, several gardens, and picturesque scenery, Brayden has run several races during his middle-, high-school, and post-college years. Nicholas loves to see if the bobcat is active and visible when he is looking at the wildlife exhibits.
The view of the James River, Brown’s Island, as well as Richmond is spectacular from this vantage point, and this restaurant/brewery knows it. On a pleasant day (bring a jacket in case it is breezy), it’s nice to sit outside, have a drink, and take in the sight of the city.
Only a block from the apartment complex that Brayden, Nicholas, and Rocco used to live in, Ironclad Pizza was a weekly takeout tradition. It is a small local bar whose appearance masks how wonderful their pizza is.
Nestled beneath the train tracks and interstate, Bottom’s Up is a Richmond classic that serves deep-dish pizzas. Parking can be a bit tricky, but it’s worth the endeavor to sample a slice of Richmond.
Fast-paced with several feisty (but secretly nice if you know them) waitresses, City Diner serves up a fantastic breakfast without breaking the bank. Just know that you need everyone in your party to be present before they give you a booth/table.
Nestled in Churchill and not far from a lovely local bakery, The Emerald Lounge is a popular but small bar that is worth the wait and a visit if you need a drink.
Over the years and across from the Richmond Squirrels Baseball Stadium, Scott’s Addition has developed from a collection of old warehouses into nice apartments, restaurants, bars, and entertainment joints. Especially if you’d like a drink or brunch, this area has what you desire.
