What is the story behind the Pittsburgh Cookie Table tradition?
A cookie table is a wedding tradition where in addition to a wedding cake, a large table (or two) with different cookies is presented to guests at the wedding reception. Our cookies and sweet treats will be made by our family and friends.
What is the Bridal Dance?
In western Pennsylvania, the song and dance is called the redovy, but is also known as the nasha malada, bridal polka or apron dance. Usually, a bridesmaid holds a bag or wears an apron to collect money from each guest who wants to dance with the bride or groom.
The best man and another groomsman stand there and hold a tray of shots -- usually peach schnapps and whiskey. They collect the money, give a shot and then the guest dances.
Afterward, guests form a tight circle around the bride intending to keep the groom from breaking in.
