Brenden and Heidi met while on the dating app Bumble. With the app, you either swipe left if you don't like the person or right if you do. These two swiped right, and Heidi made the first move. She started with the pick-up line of "If I had to choose between DNA and RNA, I would pick RNA because it has U in it." After that, Brenden was intrigued, and they started talking.
They went on their first date on September 9, 2020. They went to P.F. Chang's and then went to the theater to see The Tenet. On September 11, 2020, they went on an ice cream date, which led to a spontaneous visit to the WW1 mueseum. They walked and talked for hours, not realizing they were both falling for one another. After that, they decided to take a trip down to Springfield, MO. They planned a fun day at Silver Dollar City and going to the Missouri State University football game.
On September 20, 2020, they made their relationship official, and from there, it was history. There were definitely some hard times during the time, which led to growth and healing from each others pasts. They like to call it their "We don't talk about Bruno moments". They moved in with each other almost two years of dating, both bringing pets. Heidi had Zeus, her dog, and Brenden had Charlie, his cat. A little while later, they adopted an Orange fluffy tabby and named him Simba. Who was found in a storm drain in Bonner Springs, where Brenden had worked at the time and knew of the poor kitten because he stayed at the police station for a little while. They may have adopted him together, but Simba has chosen to favor Heidi the most.
While being together, the couple talked about marriage and the future. They decided they wanted the same things like family and kids. That is when they started looking at rings.
On June 8, 2023, Brenden took Heidi out for her birthday dinner, concealing the fact that he was going to propose later that night. They ate at P.F. Chang's and Heidi expecting to go straight home, Brenden had a surprise hidden in his boot. They start driving, and Brenden takes her to the WW1 museum. They start to walk and admire the skyline of downtown Kansas City. Heidi still oblivious and taking pictures, Brenden suggests they go downstairs where they had walked and talked for hours on their spontaneous second date. They walk downstairs, and Heidi is still oblivious. Then Brenden takes both of Heidi's hands, gets down on one knee, and proposes. Tears of joy erupts from Heidi and she says, "Yes!"
Dating apps can be kinda sketchy, but when done right, good things happen when all you do is swipe right.
