An Unconventional "Love" Story

Many of you do not know the story of how Carson and I met and are unaware that we used to completely despise each other... so what better time to share than now!

We met our freshman year at college as Carson lived on Wood 3rd floor. Wood 3rd floor was designated as what Embry-Riddle calls an LLC or Living Learning Community. An LLC is supposed to be a residence hall compiled of students who are all the same grade, major, and gender. The idea is that the students can all study together and attend the same classes with the same professors etc.

Well, Riddle somehow compiled a group of the worst behaved worst students you could imagine... and they just so happened to become Brendy's friend group.

A few weeks in to our first semester Carson moved into a condo and moved out of the dorms. Because of this, he wasn't around all the time anymore. At this point we didn't really know each other as Brendy was better friends with some of the other guys, but we were aware of each others presence.

Now fast forward a few months, Carson would come eat lunch or hangout with what Brendy considered to be her friends. This is where issues arose.

Now here's the kicker - both Carson and Brendy share a very similar personality when around friends. We are both the sort of quick witted, smart aleck type with a dry sense of humor. This worked out wonderfully except for when we were together and stepped on each others toes. This is where Brendy coined her famous phrase "Know your place, CARSON" (aka stop talking.)

This continued for all of freshman and sophomore year of college. Now the summer after sophomore year, Brendy was supposed to return home to help her parents pack up their house and then return to school to fly for the summer. Unfortunately she happened to break her foot the first day home... While she couldn't fly, she still chose to return to Florida for the remainder of summer. She spent her time working and hung-out with her friend group.

However one night our beloved friend Justin forgot to show up to dinner.

Carson and I were already at the restaurant and this forced us to go on what is now considered our first date. What started off as an extremely awkward dinner ended in finding out we don't hate each other, but are actually quite similar and had weirdly coincidental lives. Dinner lasted hours as we discussed our mutual love of New Girl, the summer we both traveled to Costa Rica at the exact same time, how we both attended a Younglife retreat at Rockbridge, countless soccer tournaments we both attended simultaneously, and on and on and on... the rest was history!

Carsons had tickets to attend a Barcelona Soccer game in Miami for his birthday at the end of summer. He chose to take Brendy instead of his friends and this was coined as our first official date. Hard to beat going to see a once in a lifetime game as a first date... good going Carson.

The next year the relationship was truly established then COVID shut down the world. Brendy and Carson "moved in together" and went into lockdown. Nothing to test a relationship quite like moving in and spending every minute of every day together for months!

After graduation, Carson started a job that had him flying away from home for a year and a half straight. We went from seeing each other every minute of every day to seeing each other for a grand total of 22 days out of 18 months!!

In a span of two years we "met", started dating, moved in together, graduated college, moved out, and went long distance. Phew!

Fast forward a few years, we have now purchased a home in Inwood, WV and live together. On March 20th we eloped at the courthouse in Winchester VA and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together,
