Q + A

What should I expect of the ceremony?

This will be a Catholic wedding ceremony. The ceremony will begin as a full mass; this includes biblical readings, a homily (message), and communion. It will also include the typical components of a wedding ceremony such as exchanging of rings and vows. A program outlining the events of the ceremony will be provided upon arrival at the church.

Can I take part in Communion if I am not Catholic?

The sacrament of taking holy Communion is done differently in the Catholic Church than in other denominations. At this time in the mass, guests will process towards the altar in lines from the front pew to the last pew to receive the Eucharist from our wedding priest, Fr. Mark. Non-Catholic Christians and Non-Christians are welcomed to participate in this ritual by approaching Fr. Mark with arms held over your chest in a "X" shape to receive a blessing. If you do not want to leave your seat during this, that is totally okay, too! You may stand and enjoy witnessing the taking of communion. More information can be found here: https://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/the-mass/order-of-mass/liturgy-of-the-eucharist/guidelines-for-the-reception-of-communion

What should I wear?

We invite you to wear cocktail attire. The ceremony will be indoors and the reception will be indoor and outdoor weather pending. There is no dress code, but for the people who do not want to match the wedding party, they will be in red and pink dresses and black suits.

Will there be dinner and dancing at the reception?

Please enjoy refreshments and dessert at our reception! We will not be serving a full dinner, so be sure to explore some of Hattiesburg's best restaurants when the reception is over (suggestions can be found under the Things to Do tab). We will dance our first dance as a wedded couple as well as parent dances. We hope that we can all enjoy this time of fellowship!

Where should I park?

St. Thomas is located next to the Southern Miss Baseball field. Our wedding day is also opening day! You may want to arrive early to account for potential parking challenges.
