Megan's Side of Our Story

Brett came into my life in the most unexpected way at the most unexpected time. It was the summer before my senior year of college and I had just swore off dating and decided I was moving to Tennessee post grad to work at St. Jude (surprise I am not living in Tennessee). Katy, my college roommate at the time, and I were running errands together and all the sudden she brought up Brett and was so shocked that she had not thought of him sooner. She was convinced we were perfect for each other. Brett was her fiance’s (now husband’s) close friend. I asked a few questions but was very hesitant because I wanted to focus on school and going to be a nurse in Tennessee. Later that night I agreed that Katy kept asking me if she could give Brett my number. I was so nervous, I only said yes so that she would leave my room and I could go to sleep. Right as I was falling asleep I got a text that said “Hi is this Megan? This is Brett, Logan and Katy’s friend”. I didn’t reply until the next morning and I quickly knew that I could not imagine my life without Brett. It was almost a month before we went on our first date. In that month there was not a day that went by that we did not talk. I began to miss someone who I had never met and I did not understand how that was even possible. By the time we finally went on our first date I was so nervous because (spoiler alert I did really like him) I was afraid to lose him. From the moment that we met in person, I felt so safe with him in a way that I never knew was even possible. I did not want the night to end, we just talked for hours. I went back to my apartment and I knew I had just met the man I was going to marry. From there I felt like I have been living in my own personal Romcom. We quickly met each other's families, walked together in Katy and Logan’s wedding, celebrated our first holidays together, went stargazing in Joshua tree, found out I passed my NCLEX and got a job in 24 hours together, took a trip to Brett’s home town, Arizona and Colorado. Then my favorite memory of all, we got engaged. I cannot wait to see the rest of our love story unfold and am so grateful that each of you have played a part in our journey!

Brett's Side of Our Story

With all of the change I had gone through, I never thought meeting Megan was even in the list of possibilities. I had just graduated from my Undergrad at APU and was beginning my new Grad position and program at APU. It was July 19th, I had moved into my new place on campus and began summer training as a GRC (graduate resident coordinator) and my friend Logan texted me one night about how one of his Fiance (now wife) Katy’s roommates had “expressed interest” (we found out that was a bending of truth later) in me. After not dating for three years to work on myself, I decided to go for it and sent her a text, which she then didn’t respond to until like the end of the following day (it was actually just 13 hours). We talked to each other at least once a day, sometimes even twice, mainly because of how big of paragraphs we were texting each other. Eventually, a month had passed and we went on our first date. I was very nervous as this was the first date I had been on in what seemed like forever. We were both very busy people and met up after our work, and just went to get some dinner. I didn’t want to make things too extreme or invite uncomfortable situations like the bill for dinner, or go too far that if it didn’t go well she wouldn’t feel uncomfortable that she couldn’t leave. So we went with Chick-Fil-A. I met her at the front of the apartments she lived in and waited for her, not knowing anything about her other than her name, who I knew her from, and the month of texting we had been doing. I didn’t know what she looked like, or in today’s age, what her instagram profile was, I just waited for when someone would approach me.

Then, she came through the door and walked up to the sign of the apartments where I stood. The first thing I noticed about her were her eyes, a hazel green, with blonde hair wearing casual clothes because she had just finished getting out of business casual clothes for work. To say my breath was taken away was an understatement, and I was so excited that we finally got to meet in person. We talked for a long time after we finished eating our food, and I got to really see who she was behind the words on the screen. I really hoped that the night went well and that I would see her again. Which, you can probably tell what happened by the mere fact you’re reading this.

Since then, I asked her to be my girlfriend, on September 23rd, and she said yes. We went on a date later on, where we stood looking over a pond with apple trees towering over us, and were interrupted by a parent exclaiming that her kid had found a stick, which broke through the peaceful silence we were sharing, and we laughed. Little did she know that was the moment I knew I was in love with her. Our first Valentine’s day we went to Joshua Tree at night and stargazed into the night sky, with a couple of shooting stars streaking through the starry sky. During the summer, we got to go back to my hometown in Antelope and I got to show her around and spend time with my parents. We got to let loose and have fun without the stress of school. All of this (and many other things) culminated on October 26th where I proposed to her at the LA Arboretum, and she said yes, and we’ve been on the path to getting married since.

We hope you have enjoyed our story, and however you have been involved in our lives, thank you.
