Long before we knew we’d be standing here planning a wedding, we were just two kids roaming the halls of the same elementary, middle, and high school. We even did the occasional class project together in elementary school (yes, we still have them — future reception décor, perhaps?). We just didn’t know yet that we were working on our long-term group project. 😉

Once Upon a time....In elementary school 

After years of walking the same hallways and barely saying more than a few words, mutual friends decided it was time to intervene. Junior prom became our “first date.”We “sort of” talked — and by that we mean someone (👀 Brett) was way too nervous to talk to Emma. We still count it, though. It totally counts.

If Brett wasn’t going to make the first move, Emma would.During weights class, while walking the track, Emma literally had to chase him down just to have a conversation.And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how true love begins.

School dances.Football games.Bonfires.And mostly… Brett studying for tests.High school flew by in a blur of fun memories and building a foundation neither of us fully understood yet.

High School Whirlwind

After graduation, Brett headed to the University of Iowa, and Emma moved to Ankeny with friends.For the first time, distance was part of our story — and let’s just say, it wasn’t our favorite chapter. Brett spent a lot of time in Ankeny (probably should’ve been studying).This was also the year Brett became an expert in buying cars… and towing them to the shop. Fun fact: Brett has owned more cars than years we’ve been dating. We’re still not sure how that’s possible.

College & Cars Era

The next year, Brett moved in with friends, and it was Emma’s turn to drive back and forth from Iowa City to Ames. Somewhere between highway miles and late-night talks, Iowa City started to feel like home — and marriage started to feel like the future.

Back & Forth (But always forward) 

We finally signed a lease and moved in together the next year. Living together taught us a lot — about patience, teamwork, whose turn it is to do the dishes, and how many bags of trash we can make in one day.But most importantly, we got to do everyday life side by side.

Fast forward to the long-awaited moment when Brett finally proposed.And when we say long-awaited… we mean everyone had been waiting.It was perfect. It was us. And it was just the beginning.

From elementary classmates to high school sweethearts, from long-distance drives to sharing one home — we’ve grown up together in every sense of the word.We can’t wait to start this next chapter of our lives and celebrate it with all the people who have been by our side through it all.Forever started a long time ago — we’re just making it official. 💛
