So....when are y'all getting married?

B: Great question. Elise and I are traveling down to New Orleans for a private civil ceremony at the end of January 2025.

Ok, but is there gonna be a party?

E: We will have a convalidation and large celebration sometime after our wedding in January.

What's a convalidation?

B: Well, it's how we are going to do our church ceremony. We have to wait for an annulment to be processed (see below for the Protestant's guide to annulments). Once the annulment is processed and approved, we can have the church ceremony!

How long will that take?

E: FOREVER

B: Ok, it's not actually forever, it just feels like it. But probably not until June/July 2026 at the earliest.

So then what is the actual plan/timeline for y'all?

B: January 2025, civil ceremony. February 2025, baby making. April 2025, honeymoon in Rome. Once annulment is granted, ceremony/party in about 3-4 months. 2026, baby (hopefully).

E: BRIAN!

B: "sorry"

Go back for a second....what is the Protestant's guide to annulments?

E: The Catholic church recognizes civil marriages and divorces, but requires that any previous marriages be annulled prior to a subsequent marriage. The annulment process determines the spiritual grounds for divorce. This is done by a tribunal, who ardently adhere to many processes and systems that are all done on paper with -

B: ok, let's take a break there, babe. Basically, she's right. But if you are actually curious about it, talk to my friend Father Daniel, he'd love it if you asked him really tough questions at the celebration.
