Our Story

Our story began at the Menards checkout line in Wausau, WI. Brianna was a cashier at the time and Devon was a customer. Both of our perspectives are quite different so we will each tell it from our own perspective.

Brianna’s story:

The summer of 2022 I was working as a cashier at Menards in Wausau, WI. I was going about my day and being the happy outgoing person I am, I was talking to these two gentlemen that came through my line to purchase roofing materials. I did not know them and I have never seen them before, as is with most customers that come through my line throughout the day and week. As I was waiting for the payment to be made the one gentlemen looks at me, while pointing at the other, and says, “He’s single by the way.” Me, being completely taken aback by the comment just laughed and said, “oh ok.” Which then was followed up by him saying, “I don’t know who is more red, you or him.” (We were probably equally red in all honesty) The next three days in a row they had come through my line and I just made small talk as I normally do. However, on the fourth day, the younger gentlemen was standing behind me as I was scanning items and says, “Can I get your number?” Again, in utter shock of what he had just asked me, I said nothing for a solid 45 seconds, and then said, “sure.” (In my head I was thinking, “wow what a dumb response.”) Now, I have never been asked by a guy for my physical phone number, let alone in a Menards check out line while I was working, and in the moment my heart was beating extremely fast, and my hands were literally shaking. So I shakily wrote down my number on a blank receipt paper and handed it to him. From that day on, we started texting, went on a few dates, and made it official the day before I left for college.

Devon’s Story:

Chris (my best man) and I were walking into Menards to get roofing supplies and when I walked in I saw the most beautiful girl in the world. I turned to him and said that she was cute, and he told me that I should get her number. We went through her line after we got our stuff and Chris said to her, "He's (me) single by the way." In which caused me to freeze and I could not get out any words. Not a single one, even though my plan was to ask for her number. We left Menards and Chris asked why I chickened out (but in some more colorful words than that). The next two days that we went were not any better, but on the fourth day almost to the end of checking out, I gained the courage to ask for her number. Thankfully, she gave me her number and after I got outside, I did a little happy dance. (no lie) I also wore a smile on my face for the next week! And although she tried to put me in the friend zone at first, I was able to win her over and steal her heart. The rest is history.

Our cheesy little love story makes us both belly laugh to this day and although awkward at the time, it was so worth it in the end. We are so excited to grow together, share our dreams, and love one another for the rest of our lives.
