We met in band at Mayo High School

We went on a school band trip to Disney World for a week and hung out the whole time!

A few weeks after the Disney Trip, Layne asked Briar to go to Prom

Our first prom together in Sophomore (Layne) and Junior (Briar) year.

We started dating and made our anniversary April 22nd, the day he asked Briar to prom. Our first few dates were seeing a hot air balloon show and going bike riding.

Dated through Briar's senior year - went to homecoming!

Went to Chicago together on another band trip!

Briar graduated from Mayo and decided to go to University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. We decided to try long distance as Layne went through his senior year.

We made it through our first year of long distance and Briar even got to come back for Layne's senior prom.

Layne graduated from high school and decided to attend North Dakota State University in the fall. Year 2 of long distance was even further away.

We made sure to visit each other throughout the year but when Covid hit in March of 2020, it brought us both back home for more time together.

Through the 3 1/2 hour drive and the new Covid regulations we kept seeing each other through our 3rd year of long distance.

Year 4 of long distance was Briar finishing up her Masters degree as Layne went through his Junior year at NDSU.

Briar found a job as a 5th grade teacher in Mankato after graduating which changed the distance from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours for our 5th year of long distance as Layne finished up his last year at NDSU.

After Layne’s graduation, he found a job in Rochester. Briar got laid off of her job in Mankato and was able to find a new position in Rochester as well. Lived in the same town for the first time in 5 years and celebrated 6 years together.

After getting to spend a lot more time together and many fun dates throughout the year, Layne proposed on our 7th anniversary at Gamehaven Reservoir
