Through His Lens

It was the kind of day that felt like it came straight out of a dream: a perfect blue sky, soft sunlight dancing over the white linens and flowers at my best friend’s wedding. I had been there for every step of her journey—through the countless bridal magazines, the dress fittings, and late-night talks about love and the future. But today, everything felt new, almost surreal. But little did I know, it would also be the day I would meet the man who would become my fiancé.

Bruce was the photographer. A tall, quiet man with an easy smile and an eye for capturing the perfect moment. At first glance, he seemed like any other photographer—a professional who would float around, taking candid shots and making sure everything was covered. But as the day went on, something about him intrigued me. Maybe it was the way his camera would linger on me a little longer than anyone else, or how I seemed to catch his eye every time I turned around. It didn't hurt that his name was Bruce—just like my pop.

Throughout the day, I found myself playfully teasing him, dragging out his name in a flirty way. "Brrrruuuuu-uce," I'd say, exaggerating the sound, just to see his reaction. Every time I said it, he would chuckle and look at me with a mixture of amusement and curiosity.

I knew I was being a bit bold, but it felt fun—lighthearted. After all, I was the maid of honor; it was my job to keep the mood light and festive. And since Bruce kept catching my eye, I kept my banter flowing. I even made sure to be extra hospitable, offering him refreshments from our bridal suite as if I were hosting a little private party.

"Help yourself, Bruce!" I'd say, smiling as I poured a glass of sparkling water, offering him a few snacks. His response was always polite but with a subtle smile that told me he appreciated the gesture.

As the day unfolded, I couldn't help but notice how observant Bruce was. He was always around, his camera aimed in my direction at just the right moment. I thought it was just part of his job—he was a photographer, after all—but as I later looked through the wedding gallery, I realized something surprising. There were so many photos of me. Not just group shots or candid moments with the bridal party, but photos of me alone, captured in such a way that they almost told a story. A story I hadn’t even known was unfolding at the time.

The photos were stunning, capturing my best friend's joy, the elegance of the day, and—maybe more than I realized—our unspoken connection.

The night carried on, but that exchange lingered in my mind. Little did I know, that was just the beginning of something beautiful. What started as lighthearted teasing and a bit of online flirting quickly turned into something deeper. We stayed in touch, and what began as a connection over photography soon grew into something more meaningful.

Now, I’m here, writing this story as Bruce’s fiancée. It all started on the wedding day, where I was meant to be there for my best friend, but instead, I found the love of my life in the most unexpected way.
